I don't get the percentages.

With this team? Nothing is even remotely close to certainty. They could win out the rest of the season outscoring the opposition 25-5, or never score another goal in the regular season. Those two and everything in between seems possible.

The only certain points are 100% and 0% in anything but it's still nice to be comforted. It's not about the percentages, it's about conceptualizing it in a way that's manageable instead of ******** my pants thinking about this every 17 minutes.

17 is oddly specific lol.

I guess the % makes more sense to me if we didn't control our own destiny.

Well, 2-0-2 and we're in on our own accord. 6 points in any fashion. Earliest we can clinch, is Tuesday. We play Sunday, Jets play Monday and both teams play Tuesday. Latest is of course Saturday.

Goal differential of 26-5 is then mathematically impossible? :sigh:

25-5 = 3 1-0 losses in regulation plus a 25-2 victory in the final game vs the Devils (leading to Fatso jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge?) missing the playoffs in a threeway tiebreaker situation with Ottawa and Winnipeg getting the last spots???
Tortorella and Sather are then both fired replaced by Gorton and Dallas Eakins, Brian Boyle and a 3rd gets us a first rounder back and --- yes -- we naturally win the lottery enabling Columbus to pick Seth Jones as number one overall.

An graphical view of the Rangers chances to make the playoffs from the start of the season....pretty consistent effort.

I didn't realize that Ottawa is the team we have to worry about now and not the Isles. Look at their schedule. 3 TOUGH games out of 4. If we play well and don't overtake Ottawa, you have to tip your hat to them.

The Rangers magic number is 6 points with the Jets. Winnipeg has 49 points. They have 3 games left. 55 points max. Rangers have 50 points. Rangers have 4 games left. Hopefully the Rangers take care of business today and they don't make things harder for themselves. Magic number is 4. Winnipeg is in Buffalo tomorrow night. In Washington on Tuesday night. Caps can clinch the division with a win on Tuesday. Winnipeg splits the next 2 going 1-1 with no 3 point loser point. Magic number is 2. Rangers can clinch on Tuesday with a win in Florida.

Welcome to JCresty's disputed posting of percentages and numbers that I don't even like to look at myself:

Rangers are up 4.8% chance of making the playoffs to 97.1%.

Controlling our own destiny wise: 1-0-2 is what we need
4 points in any fashion between Jets and Rangers is what we need.

The earliest we can clinch is on Tuesday: If the Jets lose tomorrow, we will have two ways to clinch on Tuesday: A Jets L or a Rangers win or any combination of 2 points.

We have a 45.0% chance of making the playoffs if we lose 0-3-0.

Apparently, if WPG lose in Reg and Ottawa loses in Reg, our chances are up to 99.8%.

If WPG loses in Reg, we're up to 99.0% at least.

That's what you get for having a 6 and 10 game losing streak in a shortened season. Ouch town.

The Rangers need to get to that 7th spot. I am hoping for the Pens to dismantle the Sens tonight. Hopefully they see it as a tune-up for a possible playoff series.

Do you really want them to play in Montreal and have to win at least 1 game there? I know, they're falling, but they were the worst team in the East last year, and we got spanked when we played in Bell. It's just impossible with this team.

There is a chance that it would be Boston and not Montreal as Boston has a game in hand with 1 more ROW and the same points. Also, if the Islanders some how falter to end the season we could get the 6th seed and play Washington

If you're going to prejudge a series based on past performance, I would rather play Montreal where we always lose on the road than play Pittsburgh where we always lose everywhere

That being said, the playoffs are a whole different animal, anything can happen

As heinous as we are in Montreal, they are so vastly inferior to Pittsburgh its ridiculous.

I'd take on the Pens, don't get me wrong, but knowing us, the entire team would get healthy just for our series where they'd proceed to to shellack us into the stone age.
