Do the Ottawa Senators just give up the first pick this year

I'd wait and hope the NHL lessens the punishment, like they did for the Devils. Staois doesn't have the pull Lou does/did but there's precedent for the league scaling back on what was originally considered a steep penalty.
This what I’d do as well, keep pressuring league for the NJ option.
Draft lottery last year was May 7, so about a month to decide.

The league amended the Kovalchuk draft pick penalty for the Devils. Originally we were supposed to forfeit a 1st rounder between 2011-14. Devils had pick #29 in 2012 which seemed like the opportune time but Lou oddly decided to keep it; Urban legend in my mind was that the Devils missed the deadline to declare (48 hours after the end of the SCF) because they were involved in the SCF that year and forgot. But I vaguely recall a short statement from Lou saying they actively decided to keep the pick.

Lou kept the 2013 pick as the draft was hosted in New Jersey and it was a top 10 pick. So it seemed like they had painted themselves into a corner and were forfeiting the 2014 1st. Then in March 2014, the league announced that the penalty would be altered to the Devils 2014 1st being moved to #30.

Exactly. Put pressure on them. Repeat this news publicly. Make the look like total hypocrites. Make them look bad.

Eventually they might lessen the punishment.

The Ottawa Senators are in the playoffs and that pick is likely in the mid twenties, do the Ottawa Senators, say f*** it and give up the years pick and get it over with.
IIt's of now their pick looks to be around 18-20. If the advance yo conf finals it goes to 29-32

You never know what is going to happen next year, this is a shit gong that is hanging over the team, I hope they just get rid of it, this year.
2026 is supposed to be s deeper draft and them missing the playoffs us s very real possibility.

I expect them to forfeit it this year

i don’t know what’s going to happen but I’ll offer counter perspective to most posts in here.

Nhl owners and managers buy into time value thinking. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.

A prospect you draft this year and develops well is more useful than a prospect you draft next year. If the piece develops well it could even be used as a trade chip at the TDL.

The post by sens fans in here make sense though and they follow the team much closer. Just some food for thought.

Weaker draft, so their first, assuming they don't make the conference finals would essentially be a pick around 25th in most other drafts.

Or at least that's how it sounds.

Dorion didn't tell Vegas that dadonov had a partial NTC and Vegas later found out when trying to trade him to Anaheim.

So dorion wasn't honest with Vegas GM...not sure if it was stupidity by dorion or intently deceiving....or both lol.

I'll throw in that it's kind of dumb the NHL doesn't have a database of this information.

They hold a trade call with an NHL official. What's the point of that trade call and that NHL official, if not to double check the database on pending trades to make sure of things like cap compliance, injuries, contracts, etc.

The fact the NHL tracks this stuff like dinosaurs and hands out 1st round draft picks as punishment is INSANE.

They should have had a database set up 30 years ago when the internet was breakout out, let alone nowadays.

Yes, this would be a very appropriate year to do it. You want your 1st in these next two draft (26 and 27), just in case.

Those professional sports fans, made out like bandits then.

They should be fined a first if they don't (also suspend Pinto again)

Most likely scenario, they give it up and after some time (like after the CBA negotiations so they don't bring up a new topic of debate..) the NHL accepts the grievance and offers a 1st round pick end of the round (so 35th OA by then) and the penalty basically becomes falling ~15 spots

Most cases I see GM have the choice of giving up this year's pick or next they usually go next year. basically who knows if you will even be GM when that draft picks becomes an NHLer so you want the quickest way to benefit off that pick as possible.

Why do you have this feeling? What is the team gunning for, if they don't give up the pick this year?
Our forward prospect group is dry due to some questionable and traded picks. 2020 was a while ago and I’m not sure they want to wait another year. We also don’t have a 2nd this year after we traded it for ZetterlundX

Probably. Reports are that this year's draft isn't deep. And next year's is better and deeper. A 20th pick next season should be better than 20th this year.

I think the pick should go to the ducks, since we were the ones who got screwed in that whole fiasco....

I'm only kidding, I think taking a first for that is another level of stupid.

The Ottawa Senators need to give up their first round because of the Dadonov trade f*** up.

The worst thing about a shit gong is that someone inevitably comes along and bangs it, and then there's shit everywhere.
