I say extend 3 years. The Kings were not going to make the playoffs the past few years, no matter who the GM.
He has not had any bad trades...I wish could have kept Campbell...but Petersen seemed the next one and I do not recall anyone here saying "they should have kept Campbell, over Petersen. Still, got Moore in the deal.
If you grade the deals and signings, they are all good;
Muzzin for #1 (Bjornfot) Grundstrom and Durzi. Durzi - have never once seen a player that I want to have the puck, more than ANYONE on this team, in the first 10 games of his career. He's electric, with the puck AT ALL TIMES in all zones....Ceiling is HIGH. He has NOT been a liability on D. He's been awesome and just getting started Bjornfot is damn good, for a 21 yr old. Grundstrom is fine and could probably make all 32 teams as a 4th liner. Good player. Limited ceiling. Consider all 3 assets are NHL players in the deal.
No one has pointed this out: Yannetti said he was 50-50 on 2 players for the 2020 draft: Byfield - Stutzle. He then asked Rob which one he wanted - how he wanted to build the team. Rob said Byfield. This was the correct choice! Quinton looking awesome and is still 19 and about the bust on the scene. BIG POSTIVE for Blake.
Last 2 signings: Danault and Edler. Danault is awesome and worth the contract. Yes, even the term. Danault was sought after by Vegas and probably it took giving him the term he got. Not Blake's fault it may be a year too long...but it may not be. Danault can certainly play out the term. Many nights, he's the best player.
Edler has surpassed EVERYONE'S expectations. Period. And was just 1 year deal. Kings miss him.
Last 2 deals:
Arvidsson for a 2nd and 3rd. Say what you want - does not score enough, etc. He's been good. If not for his covid games missed, could have 10 goals and 15 assists by now.
At 8 goals 11 assists in 28 games is certainly good. Gives 100% and never plays a bad game. Good deal. The Kings do not need the picks, (they have 20 great prospects) more than a productive player at age 28.
Lemieux for a 4th. Are you kidding me? Can you imagine this team without him? The only tough player that can drop the gloves with anyone. Stand up for Arty, Lizotte and entire team. 7 goals (almost 8 last night) and the Kings record with him is unreal. He's good enough to play top 6, honestly. Would create room for Danault or Kopi and 20 goals would not be out of the question. Keep him with Arty and Lizotte...best line many nights. Kudos to Blake for getting him.
Finally, has not given up a prospect as of this moment. It's prudent, to give them all another year to see what they have. Too difficult to judge how good many will be: Spence, Grans, Thomas, Madden, Fagemo, etc etc. Big positive for not making a Cernak type of mistake.
Based on all of the above, he has not failed, or set the franchise back. He's put the team in a good position to have a good future and playoff team. Good times ahead. In fact, if he was let go, the next Gm would uber benefit from what Blake has assembled! Have 20 great assets to deal with...and they may not know their value, by not knowing them well and could blow it, honestly. Let Blake have 3 more years.
