Do the Florida Panthers have a claim to be the most hated team in the league right now?

I think I’ve changed to where I just hate the team my team is currently playing but then after it’s all good. It’s fun to watch all your teams too and it’s hard to do that if I hate them.

Can’t be mad at fans enjoying a good time.

I am frustrated at the reasons we got to this point. I think the compensation imbalance is too impactful. I think at a time when inflation is stressing consumers that the best path for the league is one where there is more diversity of elite play throughout the competitive clubs.

It isn’t a good time to have a no tax dynasty.

I think the current environment could cause damage that could be hard to repair. The system is putting some extra headwinds into an already windy environment.

My fix: act like the fed

Create a system that allows for micro adjustment then nudge the system the direction you want it, observe a year, then nudge if needed either way. If it isn’t needed have a mechanism that sets it to 0.

That adjustment could be a percentage rate for a cap increase or decrease based on tax status. .5% or even less than that is all that would be needed to start. It’s trivially easy to do this in a manner that the actual league wide cap total doesn’t change, just some teams get a tiny bit more and some a tiny bit less. You don’t have to crush clubs to bring the system to a healthier place.

I don’t think it’s wise in a complex system to always “fix the whole problem”, sometimes it’s best to just fix the “too impactful” part. Some teams will have advantages and I don’t want that nullified. I want the cost of the disadvantaged to be lessened slightly because it to too much rn. The unfortunate are being squeezed too hard from this along with the global economy and politics, exchange rates, etc.

In Canada.

I've never met a single Toronto fan in the US who didnt come from Canada.

Chicago and Boston have tens of thousands of transplants in every NHL city in the US.

I know a few Toronto fans who are American. Can't say I know anything about any of their backgrounds except for one. With the others, perhaps they had relatives from past generations from Canada which led to them being Leafs fans, but like I said, I don't know. With the one I do know, he has no ties to Canada whatsoever that I know of, and picked the Leafs because they're popular. He was born and raised in Oregon. Rarely watches games because of his oddball work schedule though.

I'm basically the first hockey fan in my family, hence I originally went with the Coyotes because they were the local team. To your point, lots of people come to Arizona from elsewhere, and bring the fandom of their original team (or the team of their parents) with them. With Arizona in particular, most of the transplants seem to come from the Midwest or California. That's why the top two teams for away fans invading our arena were the Blackhawks and Red Wings. Kings fans not so much, but Dodgers fans invade the hell out of Diamondbacks home games. Now that I'm in Florida, a lot of our transplants come from the northeast. The only Tampa Bay Lightning games I've been to since moving here though have been when they've hosted the Coyotes (and I have tickets for March 27th when they host Utah). The local support has been good enough since I've been paying attention to the Bolts that there isn't a huge influx of away fans when they host, say, the Rangers or Bruins, but it probably was that way in the past. Similarly, while I haven't attended many Rays games, I've noticed when I watch them on TV when they're hosting the Red Sox or Yankees, it might as well be a home game for those teams.

And I have to correct myself; I have run into a few Toronto fans from the US while at the sports bar watching with my friend who is a big Bills fan. Upstate New York/VT/NH/ME have a good chuck of Toronto fans, I am sure. I just don't get up there.

nah. You'd think being a fan of a division opponent from back in their Southeast days I'd have some animosity built up but I REALLY do not.

They're well managed, they're coached by Paul Maurice, and they were possibly the longest suffering fanbase in the league in terms of relevancy before the last few years. They haven't gone full Cobra Kai level villainy yet so no reason to hate. Even if they did goalie us in the conference finals during our best chance at winning this decade.

Na it's still Vegas for their LTIR bullshit every year, Florida is up there though. Probably in the top 5, I dislike them as a divisional rival, but I don't really say "Hate" them, but I do hate Bennett. I think he's a top 3 dirtiest player in the league, so was Gudas but obviously he's been gone a couple years now.

Tkachuk is more of a rat than dirty, actually kinda like him. Would be perfect for the Leafs.

Marchand is a scumbag though, but I think Vegas is still genuinely the most hated team. People hate Leafs fans, not really sure people actually hate the team itself. Vegas is just a straight up despicable organization.

Honestly, I forget they exist most of the time. They're the San Diego Padres of the NHL for me.

The Leafs are the most popular team, more or less (I don't have anything quantifiable to justify this statement, but I feel like most people would agree). A lot of people just like to hate what's popular on principle. I sometimes like to think that I'm above that kind of thinking, but my actions completely contradict that. I don't like the Leafs, and I would be lying if I said that a large part of that wasn't simply because they're the league's most popular team. They have two of my home state's product as their stars in Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies after all. There is absolutely no rational reason for me to dislike them as much as I do, therefore we can conclude that my dislike for them is irrational. I'm just a human person who's no inherently better than anyone else. An uncomfortable thought even if it's true. I still don't have to like it. :P

Not even close, I'd say Leafs, Habs and Vegas are the most hated teams on here.

As a Habs fan, I don't hate Florida but I'm jealous and a bit mad that non traditional hockey markets are were meaningful hockey is played now...
