Do Shootout Wins Feel Satisfying to You?

I think they're so dumb and I personally believe they are a disgrace to the 60-65 minutes of play that comes before it.

That being said... when the Devils actually win a shootout, it feels like ethereal nirvana

I'm an ok with a tie guy. Shootouts and 3 on 3 are stupid ways to decide a game. No other major NA sport decides games with drastically changing number of players or altering the method of play such as the SO. That being said, the 2 pts from a SO is still 2 pts, so it's just as satisfying from a standings perspective.

Why don't think just do that in regulation and score 10 goals each period...chances are the other team isn't going to be able to match 30 goals....so they'd never need OT to begin with right?
Regulation time isn't sudden death...so, yeah, there's a very good chance the opposition teams would respond in kind and score likewise.

OT is a different animal. First goal wins.

If people don't want ties, and want/need to see a winner and loser, then the NHL has to scrap the points system. It's absolutely ridiculous that some games are worth more than others.

Go the route of MLB and NBA. All games are decided, plain and simple. Standings are wins, losses and games behind. You can't get any clear cut than that.

The NFL and soccer are the other ones that use the point system, and both allow for ties/draws.

Needs to be one or the other.

Yes, that's the point, good chance the other team gets great scoring chance depending on how you play. In regulation, you may be comfortable playing a certain way and if the other team scores, you have time to comeback and score yourself. In OT you don't have that luxury, so teams sit back a bit more, if they open it up and go all out trying to score, they will end up giving up scoring chances and no ability to come back from it.

Like I said, only way to guarantee the end of game early is to let the other team score....they can go all out and try to score themselves as well, but it's a toss of coin sometimes....there is simply not a high likelihood teams are going to go all out trying to score quickly in OT

If the game makes it to the shootout I'll generally just turn it off & look up the next day to see who 'won'. If OT starts off with a minute or so of keep away, waiting for the perfect chance to enter the zone, that will get turned off too.

Ties are fine. Some nights neither team deserves to win or lose. 10 min 3 on 3 OT and then it's over as a tie (roughly the same time as OT & farting around with the shootout now), 95% of the games will be over before then, 5% would be a tie. If we absolutely must have a winner every game, then 'all' the games need to be worth three points (3 regulation win, 2/1 if it goes to OT for the winner/loser).

No.
But I am old enough to remember Buffalo getting 20+ ties in one season.
Shootouts are better then that.

What the NHL needs to do is change the way points are allotted.
But we all know the league is not smart enough to do this.
3 for reg win.
2 for OT win
1 for SO win
0 for any any loss.
Any team that loses in OT or SO gets zero points.
This would make teams fight hard to the last sec of the game to get a reg win instead of the 2 teams playing not to lose to get the guaranteed point.
