Jack and Quinn are for sure #1s for me. Jury still out on Luke.

edit: What a remarkable thing to be even having this conversation about 3 brothers in the NHL.
Yep. Correct take.

Jack and Quinn are easily #1s of their draft classes. It's still too early for Luke, but he's trending well.

The only 1 that 100% goes 1st is the one that already did,
Quinn probably should too. But it's going to be a toss up between Dahlin and Him for most (imo I'd take Quinn)
Luke, Nah (at least not currently)

I still believe Dahlin will put it together and be the second best D of his generation after ASP just a shade above Makar and ofc Hughes
Quinn is clearly way ahead of Dahlin right now. It's really not close. Quinn has a Norris and is top 5-10 player in the league right now. Dahlin is not that level.

Vlasic being in conversation for #1 with Jack and Seider is wild lol.
Surefire proof that you haven't watched him play this season.

I can't see why anyone rational would take Hughes over Power. Even Moser who was drafted 60th is ahead.
You still didn't answer the how. You just made more stupid statements.

I have Quinn ahead, although the NHL hardware isn't a good argument for it (they're just popularity contests and have been for years)
IMO Quinn is just better. Period, full stop, but the Dahlin hype machine has been out of control since pre-draft, and despite him never playing near that level, he's still put on that pedestal by a lot of people.
I'd venture a guess in a redraft you'd still have a decent portion of people that'll take him and assume that the only reason he hasn't hit that mythical level is because the organization he plays for is trash

I agree with the hardware take generally. But the Norris is a deserving reflection of how good Quinn is/was.

He's been the best defenseman in the world since the beginning of last season. Dahlin just isn't close.

He hasn't done nearly enough to prove he was worth anything more than the 4th overall pick at best. A defensive liability last season. Seems to have improved somewhat but Edvinsson went behind him and is now having a much, much better rookie year despite relying more on his defensive tools and still growing into his 6'6" frame. They're both 2003 as well, Moser is a bit older but he's also been mastering some of the most difficult minutes in the league. Now in Tampa already up there with Hedman defensively which is about as proven as you can hope to have. Power despite team struggles is pretty much as advertised, better defensively and no worse offensively. Among offensive options you have Guenther who's team leader and ppg already, despite routinely facing the top defensive pairings.

At best Hughes is in the second group with the likes of Zellweger who is one game short of being a rookie but is having a very impressive start nonetheless now. Or Johnston who seems to be overcoming his early season slump.

McTavish and Beniers Hughes has overtaken by now, but so have many others.

Defensive liability last year? Based on what? His +/-?

He has some of the best defensive metrics in the league. Way better than Power.

Not saying you're wrong but which players are you taking before Luke?

If I had to choose a player today for my team I'd probably take Edvinsson, stankoven, wyatt johnson, eklund and potentially guenther over him.

And then there are just a bunch of guys where it's a coin flip. Don't get me wrong, Hughes could certainly end up having the best career of any player from this draft, I just think some other guys will be more effective, so I'd bet on them ahead of Hughes for the #1 pick.

if I really wanted a good offensive dman for my team he'd be a good bet though. And I wouldn't fault anyone for taking him #1 because nobody in this draft year has pulled away big time yet.

If I really wanted a great shutdown defenseman I'd take Luke Hughes.
Yeah, he's become a dominant defender with his skating and reach.

Edvinsson is 7 months older than Luke lmao. He's also not a rookie.

Giving Edvinsson credit for being unable to crack an NHL roster until like a year and a half older is wild.

"better defensively".
Except luke gives up significantly less expected goals than any of the other dmen (and creates significantly more offensively

Luke is better defensively than offensively...
Disagree.

Maybe early in the year when he was playing it safe, but he's been better offensively for the last month +.

Reasonable response, I’d take Hughes but it’s a little easier to take Luke when you’ve already got Jack. I agree nobody has pulled away from the pack as of yet but Luke’s defensive game has grown a lot since year one, if he continues this trend I believe he will.

Yeah I could probably go either way. He's just such a beast both directions. What a gem.
Unfortunately NHL fans have about a 3-4 year lag period for preconceived notions about defense to go away no matter how much evidence stares them in the face.

Only way to speed up the change is winning a cup.

Dman doesn't throw hits? = BAD DEFENSE
Center doesn't hit or win faceoffs? = BAD DEFENSE

He's been quite a bit better this year, but the -25 despite sheltered minutes last year had concrete reasons behind it. If you look at shot attempts against with him on the ice you'll see that a completely exceptional number were high-danger chances and often because of his own turnovers. I'm all for being patient with young players and allowing mistakes, but we're talking 1st overall here.

Dahlin and Hughes are too close to call IMO.

Jack is relatively easily #1, who knows how Seider develops but doubt he catches up.

Theres a large group in Lukes all competing, be more obvious in a couple years. At this current time Id probably say Boucher goes #1

He was -4 at 5v5 (+9 when not paired with Brendan Smith)....

And he wasn't sheltered at all last year. He was the team's #1 for much of the season because of injuries.
