Lehkonen for Barron for Carrier….. Hughes is not winning anyway.

You keep Lehky and Kovacevic and the team is already a .500 team, if not more.

Carrier should be ok. He had a 30 points season two or three seasons ago. Always been in the plusses except this season on a god awful worst team than Habs. His salary is a bit high. I guess they gonna trade Savard soon.
The goal is to win a Cup. Not winning anything with those 2.

Dobson has pretty much a goldilocks morphology. Too little neck and you're likely headed for a coaching career, the bottom lines or chronic unemployment (this risk doubles and sometimes triples depending on studies if you have narrow eyes as well). Too much neck and you'll be cursed with one of the worst "gifts" one can be born into: talented enough to make the pros, but destined to be the fans laughing stock and soon to be out of the league. You won't make enough income to sustain a whole life, you're likely of average intelligence meaning your prospects outside of hockey are, at best, mediocre and you've tasted just enough of the sweet, sweet nectar of professional sports to be able to be nostalgic about what could have been, but which wasn't ever realistic with your cursed morphology.

Then, you have players like Dobson. You measure the neck and it's, quite evidently, of above average length, but still well within what's considered normal. It's imposing without being in freak territory. Think of a magnificent eagle with its long strong neck, compared to a horrible looking animal like an emu with it's abomination of a morphology, unable to fly or do much of anything except be slaughtered.

Just look at this fine specimen:

Notice the resemblance with one of our prospects, Mailloux. Similar facial structure and features above the filtrum. Where does he differ though ? What makes Dobson a star while Mailloux a player who we fear might become another low IQ player. It's the wide jaw compared to Maillouxs narrower, triangle shaped jaw and chin, highlighting his neck. This triangle shape also appears when you look at him from his profile. Two pieces of evidence to show everyone what I mean:

Look at the blue lines and sharp angles. The whole facial and head morphology pronounces the neck further.

Just beautiful. A perfect specimen.

Yeah I always loved the guy but he was despised here for being "a 30 pts player" and now everyone's pretending we traded Gretzky. Also the cap situation has just been entirely memory holed (we straight up wouldn't have had the money to sign him even after trading Kulak/Chiarot/Petry/Toffoli until Price went on LTIR that August)
Yeah, we were at a time when becuase of dumb decisions, we counted on Lehky to be a top 6 for us which he could never be based on how bad the team was. But he was always one of the toughest forward to play against. And had some talent.

So we didn't trade Gretzky. But we lost the trade. No idea why people love to deny reality. See, people who keep saying win some, lose some....well that one is in the lose column.

For THIS one...well it's in the column that we had nothing to offer to Barron and he had nothing to offer to us. We are now welcoming a vet who is reliable, a RD and wants to play here. It's a win right now. But it's not Gretzky too...

Anderson?
Under a flat cap, with FIVE years remaining on his contract at 5.5, during the same summer where expiring Monahan cost a 1st to dump, Bjorkstrand was traded for just a 3rd and a 4th coming off a 28G/57P season, and Pacioretty was traded for free after 37P in 39 games? Don't think it would have been that simple and that's a lot of gymnastics to keep a middle six tweener when there was a decent trade on the table for him.

I love Lehkonen but it's not like he's the first solid middle sixer to juice his counting stats next to superstars either.

I always loved Lekhonen but I'm also glad we traded him , also glad we let Danault walk , this team needed to tank I'm sorry , right idea with the lekhy trade but bad prospect to target in hindsight
I think keeping Lehkonen would have been fine but like I said above it genuinely wasn't even really an option without either passing on Monahan or paying a pretty hefty cost to dump one of our anchors in the flat cap era. It's something that's just been forgotten about that whole period because we're out of the flat cap and normally last place teams don't struggle to sign a 3rd liner but it was genuinely the reality, we couldn't afford him back then.

Play him as a # 4 this year and next and slide to 3rd pair in final year of his deal whena kid takes his place ?

Pretty much. They're not bringing back Savard, so he's essentially Savard's replacement for the next 2 years. He plays a Sebastian Robidas / Mike Weaver type of game. He's a hard working, two-way guy with good defensive skills. He's a definite upgrade over Barron, Savard & Struble. He fits as a #4 with us at this time. His contract & term is perfect.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Bogdan Konyushkov. Summer of 2025, he'll have one year left on his KHL contract, which is buyout territory. It would be interesting to bring him over at the same time as Demidov.

Engstrom & Reinbacher will push for spots on the team next year, too. Mailloux, I think, gets moved, but we'll see.

True that we can say that the 2nd pick we got on that Lehky trade gave us...Michael Hage. So..it's not all bad...lol
No one here would have been happy with the Habs signing Lekhonen to the extension he eventually got.

He was severely underrated and under appreciated amongst Habs fans IMO, and also around the league, I thought the Avalanche got a steal and it was one of the best trades of that deadline.

Unfortunate they couldn’t get more for him but they did alright, the profile of Barron and the 2nd round pick was a solid gamble at the time.

Can’t apply what we know now to what we knew then.
