Former Bruins Dmitry Orlov

According to Caps fans Orlov was looking for 6 years on his next deal, Caps mgmt looking for closer to 3.

Not sure how thats gonna work for the Bruins if they talk extension. Wouldn't want to go more than 4 but if hes looking for 6 that means a much higher AAV to convince him to go 4 years.

Will be interesting to see what happens.
5 years 6 mill per

Feels like what where looking at if we want to keep him

Would require a lot of maneuvering to make it work

i love gavrikov, but orlov is considerably better. and he's the #3 here :D
That’s where I’m at exactly, ‘nugs.

Orlov was listed as a possibility, but I dismissed it. Bigger cap hit. A core player for the Caps who are in a battle for the playoffs. Plus, he’s just too damn good and a bit of a pipe dream.

His cap hit for us is now less than Gavrikov - at a cost that was less than I was willing to give up for Gavrikov.

Orlov could play with any of our guys on either side and make that pair better. I’m still in shock honestly. I can’t wait to see this team live.

The beautiful thing about Orlov is that he was the hardest working player on the Caps. He should fit right in with the Bs in terms of work ethic. Also has a Cup, so he brings that angle as well. Been there and knows what it's like.

I'm with you -- somewhat in shock. Didn't think as big a fish as Orlov was possible as a deadline addition for the Bs. Much more than the simple depth D add that I was expecting, and would have been perfectly fine with.

With Orlov, baldy on the bench has quite a spread available now. He can sit Forbort and let Orlov handle heavy PK minutes. He can sit Grzelcyk for Orlov, who does a lot of Grzelcyk's retrieval/transition stuff really well himself. Thinking quickly, he can deploy a frankly terrifying transition focused group or a bigger, grinding bunch.

This dude is just perfect for this team. Right there with Seidenberg's fit for the '11 champions, though that was a matter of delayed awesomeness.

I have been a fan of this guy for years. Even if it’s just a rental I’m so happy to have him here.

Sneaky skilled. When he first broke into the league I remember him embarrassing forwards who challenged him at the blue line with his hands.

Oh and he can hit too. Love it.

Khodobin?
Dobby was born in what is now Kazakhstan, but is ethnically Russian and represented Russia in international play, so I'll give it to him.

Last good Russian skater though, probably Stan Chistov in 06-07. Before him it was Samsonov.

think I`d focus on a 2 year deal with Hathaway, lock in a bottom 6 guy if Foligno isn`t in the plans, leaves more money for those they need to sign and bonuses
