That's fair. There were plenty of coaches available though. Basically staying status quo was unacceptable IMO.But let's say their GM target was TBL's Mathieu Darche. You can't get permission to talk to him until you own the team. And he's not going to jump 10 days before the season starts.
Staios said him and DJ had a long conversation and DJ said he wanted to see it through. Guy was probably begging to keep his job.im pretty sure DJ is relieved he is fired.
This is my favourite Alfie stat/anecdote: In 07-08 he averaged averaged 23:29 for the first 44 games before injuries arose, with 29 goals, 60 points in 44 games, and 7 SHG. He had 19 games over 24 minutes in that stretch. At 34/35 years old. After a short offseason from the playoff run. This year the forward leader in ice time is MacKinnon with 22:38, for perspective.
He is the perfect example Jacques can use of a guy who didn't sacrifice anything defensively while still being a force offensively. And for sure Martin is going to be hammering it home that all 5 guys have to do their jobs defensively in all three zones, to win pucks back and prevent odd man rushes.
Congrats Sens friends!
Just wanted to ask, what's your guys's opinion on Jacques Martin? How's he been for you guys? I felt he didn't really get a fair shake in Montreal. His system was boring, but efficient.
EDIT: Just realized he's only been back with you guys for 12 days lol. Still, feedback on the hire would be appreciated.
if you listen to players that played for Torts, he always explained why. His media personality is different from what the players see apparently.but look at Torts he is surviving just well and he coached the same era and is a bigger hard ass. Vigneault has had lots of success across multiple organizations. I wouldn't be opposed
Smith is what it is, I don't fully blame him, but he made many, mnay unforced errors. Under normal ownership and expectations he is let go a season or two ago. He was a very good hockey guy, in over his head., given a poopy roster year after year to play with. The plan was to let Dorion and DJ run out the year, but the incompetence on display was so appalling to the actual professionals in charge that both had to be fired before the halfway point. Crazy that these clowns were in charge for so many years.
Empathy. Something a lot of people don’t have.

Are you kidding!!! Darche would have jumped in, at any time..But let's say their GM target was TBL's Mathieu Darche. You can't get permission to talk to him until you own the team. And he's not going to jump 10 days before the season starts.
Wish him well.
This whole mess began with a puffed chest, foolish baravdo move by the organization to part ways with Dorion for something he did two years ago. I am fully convinced that if they did not do that, DJ would have been fired back in November, before Sweden.
Instead, we have lost another season dithering around and while the hires yesterday are good for short term, and non-committal, I am not impressed at all with the new owner/POHO handling of this season. They tried to win a social media game and torpedoed the season instead
Are you kidding!!! Darche would have jumped in, at any time..
32 teams, 32 jobs.. typically 5-20 years of service life.. 2-5 M in salary. Perks, privileges'!!!
Now consider that they open at a rate of 3-4 a year. 2 jobs are typically recycle (so a previously employed GM).. That means 1-2 new openings a year...
It is a moving train and you better be willing to jump on.. or it passes you by.
Every team has 2-3 AGMS/Director of scouting/senior advisers.. so 100 guys, 1-2 openings.
NHL HC
NHL GM
NHL POHO
these are sacred, Holly Grail jobs. If offered, if available you jump.. even if the train is moving.. Heck, you jump if it is a bullet train.
You do realize you can't just jump out of a contract, right? Are you kidding!!! Darche would have jumped in, at any time..

fired coaches, ones that never got off the ground... never resurface.Staios said him and DJ had a long conversation and DJ said he wanted to see it through. Guy was probably begging to keep his job.
Ridiculous.
The season was torpedoed by Dorion. That's it. He was the one who never acted on Smith's obvious shortcomings. He's the one who still has us handcuffed with no cap space. This team, on the ice, from the players through the coaching staff was Dorion's creation.
To blame people that acquired exactly zero players on the roster and hired none of the coaching staff that have run up a 11-15 record is some wild stuff.
I'm sure Darche would have loved to take the job. He's under contract with a division rival. He can't just walk out the door without legal repercussions.
we have debated this before. I am not willing to go down that rabbit holeYou do realize you can't just jump out of a contract, right?
Wonder how the Sens will look under the new regime. An interesting read below:![]()
