The Dutch loss really is surprising and doesn't look good for them. Their final game is against Lithuania, so there's a good chance the Netherlands are going to get relegated, as I don't think the Romanians will be able to compete with this Korean team.

At the same time, Britain really needs to win this game against Korea if they want to be promoted. I think even an overtime or shootout win will give them enough points, but they can't let the Koreans win this if they want to move up.

Congrats to GB, they are officially promoted with one game left. Where is that guy who said Korea will challenge everyone because he believes it now?

GB wins it in the shootout and are promoted

I think the point was Korea ain't no *****es lol they're never the most skilled, physical, or even intelligent team on the ice but they don't give up.

I haven't taken a look at the turnover in rosters, but considering Britain was comfortably within Division IB last year I'm a little surprised that they had such a difficult time at this level (I say this knowing that they had an ineligible player; I don't think that would have had that big of an impact though).

Tomorrow is set up to be interesting in the fight to avoid relegation, as will the upcoming Lithuania-Estonia game. The ideal situation for both these teams would be for it to go into extra time, guaranteeing they each stay here next year.

Have anyone tried the livestream on the IIHF website for U20 IIA?
Whats the payment options?
Is it 5.00 € for one live game only (video ticket)? And 15.00 € for tournament-pass? (playlist ticket)?
Will there be livestreams available for U20 Division 1A as well? Do anyone know?

Well, maybe our definition of "spare part" is different but to me, 3-4th line player in Latvia's case is a spare part and that's what he would be.

Exactly. Yes, Rutkis could of made our bottom six, but later on it is unlikely he could make our senior side when it matters. But with team GB he might be a ever present in all of their biggest tournaments.

There definitely is for Division IA. I want to say the other ones will as well, but I am not sure at the moment.

First of all, you both should probably consult a dictionary. A spare part would be a player who isn't a part of a working mechanism.

Rutkis likely would be a part of our junior national team and therefore can't be considered a 'spare part' in any real meaning of the phrase.

As for his chances of making the Latvian national team in the future, that is pure speculation. If you feel sure he'd be unlikely to make the team, you're lying to yourself. No one knows that. :)

There's plenty of examples of players making the national team when they were playing in the Latvian juniors or the Latvian league at his age (and not exactly blowing the leagues up).

Also, his chances of ever playing in the Elite division or the Olympic games or in a top ranking European league would be infinitely higher as well.

I'm not going to get into this crap again but taking a team to a shootout is giving them a decent challenge in my mind. Losing to Lithuania pretty much ruined any chance they had though. And that'll be my last comment on the subject, no need to have a page full of that crap again.

I'm happy GB promoted, I said in the first post in this thread that's who I was cheering for. Good on them.

Race to avoid relegation is pretty close though. Dutch need to get something from that Lithuania game which won't be easy.

And you tell us to consult the dictionary  "Spare part" is someone who IS a part of working mechanism but an INTERCHANGEABLE part, a REPLACEABLE COMPONENT, which is exactly what me and ozo meant.

"Spare part - replaceable component, sub assembly, and assembly identical to and interchangeable with the item it is intended to replace."

No need to thank me :teach:

Actually, it's the other way around. Spare part is a part that isn't used, but one that is kept for possible replacement of working part in case of such working part will be out of order.

I get your idea, but Namejs is right, you've used a wrong word for it.

Got to love internet after reading our discussion. Talk about splitting hair, eh?

Namej, I could build a similar non-sense post about your crystal ball working only at times when it fits your argument. Rutkis making our U18 team is a sure thing, but when I feel that he is more likely to be a regular for GB senior setup than Latvian, I'm lying to myself. Golovkovs was likely to make our U20 team for Asiago as well and he had ten times the credentials Rutkis have.

Anyway, this is my last post on this subject, all I wanted to say is, that me and SoundAndFury (we really do acknowledge, that he could/should of made our U18 roster) fail to see what's weird about Rutkis decision, even when we forget, that he indeed might feel like a true British kid right now.

He's more likely to make Team GB than the Latvian national team. I haven't opposed that point, as it's obviously true. You're not lying when you say that.

I also haven't implied that it's wrong or weird for him to feel British. You should probably re-read what I wrote.

You're lying to yourself by saying that he wouldn't have made the Latvian national team. We don't know that.

And, no, I'm not splitting hair - you had a different opinion on him, so I laid down my point and opposed your views.

As for Golovkovs, Ankipāns is an incompetent junior coach. Listen to some of his interviews, he doesn't know anything about junior hockey.

All square after first twenty in NED-LIT game. I love the surprise relegation as much as the next guy, but I feel Netherlands would ruin the next years IIB tournament for us. :/

By the looks of it Netherlands won't get relegated, they just seem to be too good of a team not to get it done.

Lithuanian powerplay is so darn bad this year. Basically they just play it like badly executed 4 on 3 but with more bodies in front of point shots. And since for whatever reason they play umbrella this year point shots are super easy to block anyway.
