Ugly, but they found a way to win. But I will point out, lots of elite teams have squeaked out wins over bad opposition this year.

Eagles and Chiefs both had a 1 score win over Carolina
Baltimore lost to the Raiders
Lions had a 3 point win over Chicago on Thanksgiving

There are things this team needs to work on, but in the big picture, the win is all that matters.

We need a few people back next week . The Jets will take advantage if we don't. I just want to win and lock up the #2 seed then rest everybody for W18.

I want Houston to beat Baltimore. If that happens, either KC wins and we're locked in this week, or Pittsburgh wins and we're still alive for the 1 seed (though whether the Broncos will have anything to play for will still be up in the air).

Houston beating Baltimore and KC beating PIT is pretty damned ideal in a number of ways (as long as one assumes the 1 seed is off the table).

Houston would then control their destiny as the 3 seed (ie, win week 18 and they get the 3). We'd be mortally locked into the 2 seed.

Ugly game but they found a way to win.

Defense was putrid against the script but figured it out and played well in the second half.

Spector cannot be on the field nor can Elam. I thought the safeties were ok filling in for the two starters.

Offense struggled against the Patriots man to man defense. Would’ve like to see us establish the run a bit more early with the success Cook and co were having. Allen didn’t have his best game nor did Shakir. Cooper had a drop.

Special teams continues to struggle. Would like to see a new coach brought in to fix that this offseason. Good on Bass hitting a nice 50 yarder.

I thought Elam's coverage was mostly fine outside of a couple of REALLY ticky-tack PI calls. Yeah, that last one will get called every time.....but the ones before were sketchy.

Frankly, I think I'd like to see Bishop start over Hamlin -- he had some tight coverages on TEs.

Elam is just a target to throw at he constantly interferes, grabs and hooks. A lot of times he doesn’t look back at the ball. Even the announcers thought it was all interferences on him.

I could also see Bishop replacing Hamlin long-term.

You also wonder if Elam gets insulated a little bit if they have the starting safeties back there as well. Rapp/Hamlin may not be anything special, but their experience in the system at that position means that they might be able to provide more effective cover for Elam, changing how he plays as well.

If Elam is your weakest link in the secondary, you can scheme around it to a certain extent. When you have 3 weak links, much harder.

I don’t care what else we do, that absolutely has to be the last time Elam is in a starting CB role for this team. He is bad-bad, and has to take devastating penalties routinely in order to compete and not just get smoked on every play. The experiment is over, hopefully Ras is back extremely soon but someone else needs to be in that role. The Patriots targeted 5 all game long to great effect.

If Ras leaves this summer they need 2 corners imo. The good news there usually pretty good at finding them.

This will NOT be popular...but we know this team has had a history of bringing back vets who struggle elsewhere but were serviceable here...

Levi Wallace to offer competition for CB2 on the cheap is absolutely the kind of move I could see this team doing.

It certainly isn't uncommon for teams to have. a let down after a big win.

However, I think this game was a valuable wakeup call to the defense. If the patriots can drive down the field on us, anyone can.

I get there are injuries, but this is the 3rd week in a row teams have known where the open guy is going to be. How many plays did we get to drake maye early and he was able to find the open man with his first read? I think McVeigh may have exposed something pretty glaring in our defense and we haven't fixed it yet.

Elam is more designed got man coverage than zone. Hr trally isnt that bad.

Bishop is a rookie

They can sign a vet CB on the cheap who wants to win or is looking for a pay day proving themselves playing on a good team

McDermott kind of called out Smiley for the fake punt. At least sounded like it was the wrong coverage.
When you are playing a team who has nothing to lose you try that stuff.
