WJC: Division I-III

The tournament is in Jaca which is one the most hockey fanatic towns in Spain. It's one of the few where ice hockey is more popular than football.

That's fantastic to hear. Didin't believe thats even possible there.. been there and didin't see anything hockey related.

They have winter there as it's in the mountain area so that should explain the hockey enthusiasm. I guess they who love summer sports have moved to warmer parts of Spain

The people aren't as interested in hockey as they were maybe 10 years ago but still it's the biggest sport in town. Another big hockey town is Puigcerda.

New Zealand continued their good efforts by beating Mexico cleanly 0-5. Pretty expected win but the margin was a bit bigger than I expected.

I don't think that's a surprise. Did the bookies make Iceland the favourite?

Clearly. 1.65 for Iceland and 4.00 for Serbia, tie 5.45. Iceland wasn't for sure that big favourite, I would have given something like 2.40-4.50-2.70. I thought Iceland was a slight favourite for this game.

Serbia defeated Iceland 7-1 at the 2013 WJC, and this year's team is better than it was last year.

I'm surprised it was such a close game as I expected Serbia to light them up. Poor offense since the start of the tournament. Hopefully at least the game against China will be filled with more goals.

Ok, I underestimated a bit Serbians' firepower. I hope you could score many goals on Chinese net.

Not so much to talk about Belgium-Turkey. Fast goals in 1st period, then some gliding and full steam in the 3rd and final score 9-0.

SOG 55-10, PIM 54-32, Belgium 2+10 for Checking to the head and 2+10 for Checking from behind, 2*10 minute miscunducts. Turkey 2+10 for Checking to the head

Spain had quite tight day-closer against China. China took a quick lead but Spain's response became sooner. Final score for Spain 1-5.

Group standings in Div IIB after 4 rounds:

1. Korea 12 p, +27
2. Spain 12 p, +10
3. Serbia 6 p, -3
4. Iceland 3 p, +2
5. Australia, 3 p, -8
6. China, 0 p, -28

Division III after 3 rounds:

2. New Zealand 6p, +8
3. Turkey 6p, -5
4. Mexico 3p, -3
5. South Africa 2p, -8
6. Bulgaria 1p, -8

Belgium's remaining games are against South Africa and Bulgaria so congratulations to Belgium for promotion to Div IIB. China will return to Div III because if they win Serbia on regulation, Iceland and Australia will play eachother so there's no chance for 3-way tie. China have lost to both Australia and Iceland and in 2-way tie the mutual game's winner will decide the order.

Division III ended today, with Belgium already assured of promotion. Thus the 2014 World Juniors are over, and the groups for each division can be named (ordered by their finish this year):
