I hope OP enjoyed this brief era of no Marek. He's back and I doubt he'll be leaving hockey anytime soon with how much of a hockey nerd he is. With as well liked as he is all over the industry, I think and hope he'll be popping up on a lot of different channels.

Oh I definitely understand why it was a no no, but like you said, why are they leaning so hard on it?

Edit: the obvious answer is $$$, but I feel 90% of the ads I see are gambling.
I recently noticed how -as far as I can tell- literally every single time a game is returning from commercial break, the last commercial aired is for a gambling site. So consistently when game action begins the last thing on your mind is gambling

He always seemed to me to be a Dana Carvey SNL character of a boring, milquetoast Canadian hockey presenter. Not sure why he'd cause such angst though.

I was hoping he would leave. That wish has been dashed sadly.

In the meantime I'm going to avoid anything he does or any guest appearance he makes. Do you blame me? Last November he was speculating that TOR and CGY would once again have a 10 player trade similar to the Gilmour/Leeman one (lol).

I still have resentment towards him. Especially the way he ruined Hockey Central at Noon, and most HNIC broadcasts.

Do you miss Jeff Marek? Did you enjoy his style?
“I hate Jeff Marek, I’m going to avoid everything he does. I’m going to make a thread about him and discuss him for hours”

Jeff Marek is dope. This thread is like you screaming "I'm an asshole" into a bullhorn at a broadway play.

Personally I just prefer to watch some independent youtuber over any "main stream media" at this point. Marek is just one of the talking heads to me and I don't care what he has to say.

Not a huge fan but he definitely deserves another chance. I don't think anyone thought it would be a career ending mistake, but it was a mistake nonetheless.

Happy to see Marek back. One of the best broadcasters in the biz. His commentary last year on the Team Canada London sexual assault cases was some of the the best coverage I saw or heard.

He clearly loves the game of hockey and the history of hockey and I can appreciate that.

Yea Marek is just a hockey nerd and honestly that's a good thing. Dudes super knowledgable about the sports, its history and prospects (mainly the CHL)

If you want to get into the nitpicking, gamblers could use the leaked draft pick info (IIRC it was all done 30 seconds before they made it official) to get a monetary advantage. But then you logically come to the question: why the hell is the NHL leaning on sports betting so much? If they didn't, this wouldn't be a problem.

I thought you couldn't bet on the first round picks that late in the day? Like betting was closed on that an hour or two before the draft. Precisely to avoid this type of thing.

some reporting ethical bullshit

"Marek worked with Sportsnet, before being dismissed due to leaking NHL draft selections to a friend while part of the broadcasting panel."
He did? Is there a link to the evidence of that?

League and media sources said that Marek gave Seidel a heads up on the picks so that Seidel could better prepare and offer analysis of those selections on social media. Professional sports leagues are known to monitor social media during live events such as drafts; it is also common for leagues to partner with external integrity and compliance firms to monitor social media activity.

NDAs involved, the friend/scout also deleted most of his draft night tweets.

His calling was pro wrestling lol. He used to have a wrestling show.

I personally do not enjoy him. His voice puts me to sleep.

The only people he hurt were the sports books and the degenerates that decided to gamble real money on where the next batch of minors were going to be drafted into service. If you tried explaining his “transgression” to a non-sports person you would be deemed a lunatic.

I don't like Jeff Marek because he seems like a nice enough guy, but just has that vibe you want to punch him. I feel guilty about that because like I said, he seems nice enough and I feel like a dick. So I avoid him.
