I'd be fine with this. From what I've seen I think Balogun has a higher ceiling than Nketiah.

Balogun is definitely more accomplished at this stage given what he did in France last season. Loaning Nketiah out for a full season somewhere where he will play regularly seems the logical move to me.

Lol….
I’m not sure what there is to look into exactly. They aren’t paying over the top transfer fees. They are just paying salaries that make it worth the players giving up Europe for the Saudi league. That’s how this works. That is what the Chinese did when they started up a league and tried to lure players there.

This may allow Chelski to get a few guys off their books but I don’t see the problem from the rules/regulations standpoint. A lot of over the hill guys are going to Saudi for one final amazing pay day. Good for them.

I remember MLS doing the same thing, obviously at a much lower level, but they were still paying reasonably over the odds for some name players. I saw the corpse of Lothar Matthäus walk around the pitch for 90 minutes against DC United back in the day and all I could think was 10 years ago this guy was one of the 2 or 3 best midfielders in the world and now I’m pretty sure I could take him.

It is what it is…

I agree with you…..and Lothar was my favorite player for a long time being a Bundesliga fan growing up.

Lol….
This is pretty funny.

It's alright for the Saudi's to buy Newcastle and invest heavily into them but Chelsea are cheating because the Saudi's are also investing in their own league?

I mean... where were these complaints when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo? You know, the guy making absolutely ridiculous salary for his playing skills and a player that was rejected across Europe?

Not sure how I feel about Havertz to Arsenal. Seemed like a talented guy before, maybe just poisoned by whatever was happening at Chelsea.

Does not bode well for Balogun seeing regular time, I'd think?

Yeah I’m not sure what the point is unless they are looking for other tactical options.

Havertz is a number 10 IMO. I never understood how he was used at Chelski. He made his bones at Leverkusen and earned that big move playing behind the central striker in a 4-2-3-1. That or as a 2nd forward in a 4-4-2 is his best position easily. Coming in off the right as an inverted winger is his next best position.

Does he make their squad better and give them some options they probably didn’t have already? Sure, but that’s a lot of money to spend on a guy who I’m not sure where he fits into their starting team. And they already have more attackers than they realistically can find decent minutes for.

I guess I’ll wait to see what their team looks like heading into the season before really passing judgement but at this point I agree it is a bit of a head scratcher.

Yeah I don't get it. Are they planning on changing formation? Dropping Odegaard back as a backup to the Rice loss? Partey is said to be leaving for Saudi Arabia, possibly. Would not mind Caicedo and Odegaard as a midfield tandem feeding the ball to all our forwards and wings, with Balogun as the backup to Jesus maybe. Did Balogun say he needed to start, or just didn't want to be out on loan?

Martinelli, ESR (leaving?), Saka, Trossard, Jesus, Balogun(?), Nketiah(?)...who else? A lot of guys up front now. Someone's fantasy formation:

I don't think Arteta falls back into a 4-4-2 but 2 strikers seems inevitable, no? Where is Trossard in this? Supersub for Martinelli and replacement for his inevitable knocks?

I have a sneaking suspicion they're just spending money on Havertz as a pricey backup for the next time Jesus goes down, so they don't have to rely on Nketiah.

Oh and my official 23-24 jersey showed up a few days ago. I wasn't sure how the gold stripes would look in person but it's really f***ing sweet.

Havertz was great in Bundesliga but he has been really bad in Premier League. Even brutal at times. He seems completely lost when defenders play much closer to him as compared to in Bundesliga. He hasn't adjusted to the league.

I actually thought he could be a great signing for someone. But i was expecting him to move out of England and was expecting the price to be... about 1/3 of what the reported cost is. That price seems absolutely mind-boggling for a guy who has scored 10 goals each season.

Balogun is not going to be happy with a transfer that includes buy-back, but it's just business, I guess

Huge loss for City, but they can absorb it better than most. Kovacic is soooo good….I will miss him a ton from Chelsea, but not much of a scorer.

Always thought Gundogan was underrated. We'll see how he does away from that MC juggernaut and Pep

An activated buy back clause would not force him to go back to Arsenal if he didn’t want to. It would just be the agreed upon price to bring him back. He would still have to agree on a new contract as part of that move and if he didn’t want to go he could simply not agree.

The main thing is the transfer. He said no more loans. I guess this is the compromise.

Word is West Ham and Arsenal have agreed on Rice’s transfer fee and the Havertz deal is done.
