He's been really solid defensively after getting used to the system. Very solid two way guy even if he's not putting up ridiculous point totals. Solid in transition and he has some sneaky good offensive tools. I'd like to see him get some reps running PP2.

He ran the PP when in Seattle with Barzal in Junior.. . he has PP running ability forsure

I remember a lot of folks here, on social media, in the actual media, and I know probably myself at times talking about how our brand took such a hit this offseason. Well, you start 7-0, do some Surges, throw out some candy, and your big controversy keeps clean and quiet (so far), plays well, and gets his name chanted, and suddenly we feel like the same old jerks.

Rod seems to love Jarvis, I mean if he's not playing why would we have not sent him down already? He seems to be the 13th forward for a reason. If Nino is hurt I think Jarvis finally makes his debut. But I still really hope Nino is ok. He has been playing like he did when first traded here.

I like the theory, but the 4th line is playing so well together I am hesitant to break them up.

I like Jarvis with Trocheck. I’d put Kotkaniemi on the third line with Staal. I don’t think Svech or TT make sense down there with Staal and Necas, while defensively good in the PK, doesn’t need to be trying to play LW right now while working through bad luck.

As a guy who hasn't been able to watch thst much because of two new borns, what's up with Necas this year? Is he having bad luck or what? Not racking up to much on the scoresheet

It's mostly a couple of things:

1. Bad luck: he's contributed to a lot of our goals from his passing but hasn't made it on the scoresheet because 3rd or 4th assists don't count.
2. The loaded offensive depth of our group, meaning that Necas isn't even on the first PP unit.

TDA’s agents must hate him. If he could have done this 3 years ago, his value would be through the roof.

I'll say it for the dozenth time. Some people simply cannot function in a place like NY. If you aren't that person, you probably can't understand.

Also, RBA is a different coach. He has CLEARLY stated in the past that RBA is someone he looked up to as a kid, and wanted to play for. If we're lucky, TDA thrives here and gives us the hometown discount for these reasons. As a person who can completely relate to TDA, I know I personally would easily leave money on the table to be happy where I lived, and happy where I worked for someone I can relate to. Hell I've done it. I turned down a job offer in Mass because I could never live there. VA is even a stretch for me these days, but at least I am less than an hour from the NC border.

I told everyone here, to much chuffing, gaffawing, and moral superiority that this would be the result with TDA when you took him out of an atmosphere where his beliefs don't fit. I was told I was a fool and that players don't care - it's about the money and NY was a great place for a young NHL'er to be. I was told this mostly by people who are at odds with what views TDA has openly expressed. Those people don't understand how difficult it is for those of us with strong moral convictions on certain subjects to exist in a place like that.
I don't go on facebook anymore. I could never stand twitter. Tony needs to learn to stay off social media, especially as a star player, because his views will NEVER fit in on any social platform, and he will just have a microscope rammed up his ass by people who want to see him punished. He needs to surround himself with people of like mind, conviction, play hockey like he did tonight, and continue to hear Caniacs chant his name.

Open
The
Checkbook.

You won't find a replacement for this guy. He will put butts in seats.

Or do I need to still find a new hobby? (who was that again?)

Tony probably isn’t staying. RHD are getting stupid money right now. You don’t give stupid money to a guy that has his history of blow ups. At least you shouldn’t.
Necas, Kotkaniemi, and Tro (depending on contract length) should get priority.

TDA is in an unusual situation though. Even though Carolina signed him as a UFA he’s an RFA after this season.

He could easily get back to his old $4.8M AAV he had in New York, but he can’t quite hit the open market yet. Arbitration would be tough for Carolina as I don’t think his behavior can be brought up there.

We’re early in the season but he is on a 99 point pace. I don’t take that as a likely scenario. We’ve had a pretty easy schedule so far.
Even if we go to arbitration, he could get 5-6 million. That would tough to fit in with the current roster and needs with JK, Necas, and one other top 6 forward.

Of course, we could hope Skjei brings up his value and we could move him to make room. 5-6+ million for a PP QB is a lot.

60-75 points, team toughness, sticks up for guys, fights, fills seats, PPQB and moves the puck like crazy. RHD Has some defensive liabilities, as does any OFD.

4.8 AAV? Yes please. They'll make room if they can get him for that.

One thing that works in Carolina’s favor is that they can continue to negotiate up to the arbitration, and can walk away if the award is above (last number I could find was 2020) $4.5M.

So I expect a long drawn out negotiation if things continue to go well.

Thusfar, he’s a big find on the ice but he’s also been sheltered in his duties, which this defense can afford to do. My biggest concern is that I still don’t see another point man if TDA is injured or gets a positive Covid test or anything else.
