I know TDA is over PPG right now but how has his physicality and defensive play looked? He’s still one of my favorite player league-wide. I hope he’d shown Canes fans how good of a fighter he is
Some defensive lapses, but not nearly as many as feared. He's generally looked pretty effective on that front- but he is getting sheltered minutes on the 3rd pair. Physicality looks good, including tonight. He brings some sandpaper between the whistles, which is good. He and Cole have added a lot on that front.

Overall, I'm really pleased with his play.

If we still had an organ I’d be begging for them to play three blind mice.

DeAngelo's MUCH more likely to happen. RFA. And if not, he may well get a big trade return.
I'd much rather keep him, if He plays like this here.

And let's face it, he is simply going to be happier in Carolina than most places. I would guess his stellar performance so far has to do with 2 things. He's specifically stated he wanted to play for RBA, and he is no longer in NY, and in a more comfortable enviornment.

I could care less who we can afford next season. I'm enjoying who we have this season.

Especially because it seems pretty damned clear at this point that the FO can evaluate talent better than the majority of front offices and are not going to desperately rush ELCs into the lineup because they backed themselves into a cap corner.

That’s all good to hear but the bolded is because people who don’t like him gave him the rep of being awful defensively because they disagree with his political views and don’t like him because of his history. He’s better defensively than most people think. He’s not great defensively but he’s better than the average offensive defenseman. People were claiming he’s low tier defensively but that’s realistically not the case

We don’t have a single soul in this organization that can replace Tro. I know you also mean we can trade for someone, but no idea who that’s going to be.

Kotkaniemi or Necas could...in a few seasons. Definitely not now, though. But I'm sure they'll do something in the offseason to use that freed cap from Nino/Trocheck. They're not a cheap team.

I definitely thought he was a lot worse of a defender because of all the bad press he got and then realized what you just suggested--that people conflated hating him as a person with hating him as a player.

I don't know all the details of his past drama etc, but as long as he keeps his head straight on here, that's my main concern.

I mean he’s well liked in the locker room wherever he goes, he’s just a hot head. I do hope he does well with the Canes and sticks there long term. His defensive play is largely a result of his history as opposed to his actual on ice play though. It always confused me how people claimed he was bad defensively because if you watched any Rangers game since he’s been here he was never the problem defensively, especially considering the effort and physicality he brings
