During the NHL 100 event on January 26 at the Microsoft Theatre, the Los Angeles Kings first head coach, Red Kelly, was in town where he was introduced as one of the National Hockey League's top 100 players of all time.

Kelly took some time to speak with Frozen Royalty about his memories of coaching the Kings in their first two seasons of existence. You can read all about it in...

Did You Know That The LA Kings Had To Trade For Their First Head Coach?

Just read this interview and enjoyed hearing Red Kelly's stories. From the L.A. traffic giving his wife a nervous breakdown (along with the absences) and the following story, it seemed like some beginning for the Kings.

“I came out and I thought coaching here—the organization was new,†he reminisced. “It was just starting, so we had to work to make it a team. That’s what we tried to do. When we had the last game here and we got beat in the second year in that playoff [by the Minnesota North Stars], Jack Kent Cooke had the beer and champagne ready for a celebration. Well, [Cooke had it all taken] away, so the players didn’t get anything. I had to quickly organize a thing at my house with my wife.â€

Time flies so fast. I enjoy the reminiscing.
