Did the US just miss out on the Olympic Gold?

The US is better all around than Finalnd center is not the only position forwards play. This USA usually lose to Finland is based on the fact that the U.S DOESNT send their best to tourneys if you actually looked at who they could send vs who they actually send. Stop gloating about beat the USA's C team from over a decade ago lmao.
The young Team USA doesn't appreciate your idea that they didn't send their best.

What the hell does "gloating about beat" mean in any human language anyway.

No they don't we literally all witness what the U.S actual best is vs what they actual send to the Olympics here in NA U.S fans constantly complain that we never send half of our best players.

And people in other countries don't disagree with selections?

Well they didn't back in the 2000s so nobody could care much about whether they those players thought they were the best or not.

I think It was the European teams time to shine, including some historically lower tier teams to possibly make a run.

The only other teams that even contemplate half their team is Canada and Russia because all 3 tend to have a massive pool of players to pick from but still the U.S seems to make a lot of questionable no logic choices to add to their roster.

Is that what you're worried about? I mean, there's no strength in numbers, but sometimes the team Finland is small. For perspective.

The first best on best Olympics was 1998. And USA has sent their best available players like others have. They don't have a great record, certainly nothing like Canada or Finland and also short of Russia and Sweden.

USA can certainly win, but there's no good reason to think they would be favorites against SWE, RUS, FIN, CAN.

The U.S would be favorites easily against Finland they have the weakest roster of the 5 all around. Sweden and Russia are much better than Finland and Canada is easily at the top. Why the hell would people care a game 10+ years ago when one team has a better roster NOW.

The U.S has two silvers in that time frame. I think that's pretty comparable to the other top hockey playing nations.

That might be true by whatever criteria you are choosing to use. Your own ranking based on name recognition or something?

IIHF ranks countries according to results in adult and Jr tournaments. Finland is 2nd and USA 4th at the moment. I don't know if there has been a time where USA would have been ranked higher. Finland also has more best on best olympics success.

You don't watch international tournaments or what? Even if you thought the USA roster was better on paper, Finland always overperforms expectations because the expectations are ignorant. They have a system, style and buy in to that system. They're prepared and organized. USA has been the favorite against Finland on paper every time in best on best. This time in my opinion Finland would have been the favorite by roster too. With the advantage in system, and gains they have made since last best on best, that would be a hard team for anyone to beat.

Russia never consistently gets it together or they would be Canada's biggest threat.

Switzerland?

Or what did you mean? The historically now lower teams, with teams at all, used to be teams capable of upsetting anyone outside the final game.

I still remember Erich Kuhnhackl of Team Germany on the rampage. Stuff to give you nightmares.

Edit: I just realized how it was a poor word choice. Thank you some people for letting me know. Sure shouldn't have said rampage or nightmares without explaining it was hockey. Thanks again very many.

They were going to be rolling Larkin and JT Miller as their 2/3 centers against guys like Mackinnon and Crosby. Anything can happen in a single elimination tourney but Canada had a clearly better roster than the USA. I'm not sure the States would even be the favourites for silver or bronze over Sweden and Russia without Eichel playing now

Who said Eichel won’t be ready?

USA was a contender for Gold, not an overwhelming favorite to walk away with the prize. Just one of four contenders in a group with Canada, the Finns and the Swedes.

To settle this, NHL/NHLPA should immediately organize a 8 game border clash summit series between Canada and the U.S. to be held in Sept. '22.

I know this is a lousy excuse what north americans usually use, but it was a bronze medal game. I believe that our team was more eager to win it than USA.
