Always the same song. Fun fact is Finland has medalled more than Sweden, Russia, Czechs and USA since the 80`s. USA has 2 medals - Finland 6. Add to that, this year we would have the best offense weve ever had. In tournaments, Finlands result is always better than its parts. We always overachive. Now we have 5 2-way C:s on the team. Our defense suck behind Heiskanen,Lindell and Hakanpää, but our 200ft forwards make up for it some. On PP1 we have Barkov, Rantanen, Aho, Laine and Heiskanen.

Laine-Barkov-Rantanen
Teräväinen - Aho - Puljujärvi
Granlund - Hintz - Kapanen
Donskoi - Lundell - Kakko

Kotkaniemi, Tolvanen, Luostarinen, Lehkonen, Armia

Let me be clear my post was not meant to be a slight against Finland.

Specifically discussing gold medals.

I was going to say that Finland missed their best change ever, but they are actually still one of the contenders, like top 2 or something. This is Russias gold to lose. Too bad that no one gives a rats ass.

The USA hasn't won an Olympic Ice Hockey gold medal in 42 years. In fact they have only won gold two times (1960 & 1980)... both times when the games were in the USA.
I'd say the odds are stacked against them.
BTW, in the last 4 Olympics where NHL players participated(2002, 2006, 2010, 2014), Canada won gold 3 times.

Yeah well, without NHL participation this is just anothe MEH Skoda-cup.

In hockey when there is a best-on-best, the gold is always Canada`s to loose.

No. On the international stage, USA winning is one of the things you don't expect until it happens.
It hasn't happened in quite a while.

If anything, Finlands chances got even better. Canada is less of a threat now, what even is their backup plan? Spengler cup team? I was expecting the same finals as Sochi but I don't think Canada gets there. Just diminishes the value, world championships will be tougher competition than the olympics this year

Not enough top-shelf offensive firepower from the Americans, especially without Eichel.

Yes and it's a damn shame. Talk your shit Canada. You were finna catch deez hands because you think a globetrotters offense can better the structure and defense the United States would've pulled out on you.

Would've gone down harder than TBL vs CBJ with the boys slamming doors on the bench after getting dunked on by Kane

BET

I'm not sure that USA's chances decrease massively if NHLers don't go. Of course it means..... significantly less.

I think any of the top5 could take it, I would have it
Canada
Finland usa
Sweden Russia.
I think centers are very important so that's why I ranked them like this, all really close though.

McDavid, Crosby, Mackinnon would have made mince meat out of the USA.

Canada's forward group is too powerful to overcome.

Anyone saying Canada's D isn't all that needs to give their head a shake. Plenty of experience, defensive acumen, size and offensive punch. It would never be an issue or a reason we didn't win.

Ekblad-Makar
Theodore-Pietrangelo
Rielly-Doughty
Hamilton-Parayko/Burns

That would have been the best defense in the games, better than Swedes.

I was so excited for Guentzel to win best forward, but things are looking grim.

Without the NHL players I see Russia and Finland as strongest candidates to win, Sweden and Czech following. I can't see how USA and Canada can put together a strong team without any NHL players.
