Did the Canucks make a mistake in not trading Miller?

Should the Canucks have traded Miller?

It was a big song and dance last year with regards to JT Miller's status as a Canuck. Weeks of "will they/won't they" drama which ended in a JT Miller extension after a career year and not finding the trade they wanted. However, after a dismal start to the season and Miller not looking so hot, would the Canucks have been better off biting the bullet on a less than ideal trade instead of tying themselves long term to Miller? Besides not having a great start he seems to also be butting heads with his teammates.

Canucks made a mistake committing to this core. As soon as the OEL trade was inked (bottom 3 trade in franchise history the day it was made) they were screwed and needed to blow it up.

They should have sold off all of the UFA aged guys demanding big contracts and reloaded around the young guys.

A lot of the player's might individually be worth their contracts but the team isn't close to contending so long as OEL and Myers are making 13 mil and are two of your top 3 dmen.

Yup. Sounds like the deals weren’t great, but Miller isn’t a player you build around and I think his attitude in a leader role stinks. In hindsight they never should have fired Green. Tank last year, trade off the vets and start fresh. Unfortunately the OEL deal can’t be undone either. There’s something rotten with this team and I don’t think it can be fixed by adding to it

Hate to admit that I was wrong, but yes it looks like it was a mistake.

I'm not sure why the team hasn't able to build upon it's 34-16-10 finish to last season as I predicted they would (and why this management group decided to proceed forward with Miller......a move that I supported), but holy moly was I wrong.

One thing I don't get about that clip - Miller and Schenn weren't the only ones going at it. Burroughs clearly had issues with Miller as well.

Signing a 30-year-old with an attitude problem into a 7-year mammoth contract, what could go wrong...

And they didn't even have to sign him yet. They could have waited to see how he plays this season before committing. They signed him when his value's the absolute highest it's ever going to be. Trade him when his value's high, sure. But don't sign him.

Everything they’ve done is wrong. The real victims are the fans, who’ve been sold a false narrative that their forward core is remotely good. Last two years in a row the fans were convinced that they had better forwards than the Florida Panthers. Ive never seen people believe the opposite of something so clear to see in my life: they have the worst forward group of all time. You know when you play them, they’re going to help you defeat them. Just get out of their way and let them implode. “Best top 6”. “Best top 9”. Those arguments are still floating around. Gut the core.

Would've been better to let just JTM walk for nothing, he looks like a player you wish you could buy out.

This core ain't winning shit. Get rid of the POS owner. Blow up the team. Start the tank, and pray for Bedard.

Should have never done the OEL trade.
That was a disaster since day 1…just to get rid of Ericsson who I think only had 1 year left at that time…?

Would have had someone like Guenther instead. Then should have traded Miller which by the way is looking like a terrible contract right now. The new deal hasn’t even started yet Jesus!!!

Then should have sold everything off over next 1-2 years (horvat, Boeser) except for EP, QH and TD.

Would have had an additional 4 first round picks (1 saved from the OEL trade, and then another 3 at least from the Boeser, Horvat, Miller trades)

Which team would possibly offer anything of value for Boeser?

There would be interest in Boeser…why wouldn’t there be??

Consistent 50-60 points for 6M. There is value there for sure. Was actually on a better pace during COVID shortened season

Why? That’s an easy one.

Injury diminished and prone player making $6.65mm/per for the next three years that was a better player much earlier in his career than he is now.

Dude doesn’t even have Bjorkstrand value.

Horvat is your player with some trade value.

Several Vancouver players have seen their value crater. Garland has as well. And now JT Miller too but he’s signed long term so he wasn’t going to be out there anyway.

Myers is the one I don’t know. I suspect he’ll have value in his contract year.

Miller is untradeable with that contract. He’s a good player but that contract is an anchor.

Horvat would have value though for sure. I see more value in Boeser than Myers personally. Boeser can still play if put in the right situation.
Garland has become useless it seems
