Did the Canucks make a mistake in not trading Miller?

Should the Canucks have traded Miller?

Voted no.

1. It's been like 6 games
2. Isn't his contract actually quite good?
3. Aren't rumors that the trade offers were quite poor?

Miller is untradeable with that contract. He’s a good player but that contract is an anchor.

Horvat would have value though for sure. I see more value in Boeser than Myers personally. Boeser can still play if put in the right situation.
Garland has become useless it seems
I disagree. big R shot Dmen are rare in the NHL. Their scarcity improves their trade value.
Nothing carries less value today than overpaid, middle six wingers like Boeser. Especially ones that aren’t scoring goals or have injury issues

Jeff Petry was a big, right shot defensemen who id argue is far better than Tyler Myers. Jeff had an extra year but more or less same salary.

Montreal had to add a young forward, former 1st round pick to Petry to get Matheson.

So I think Myers at 6M for 2 more years, being a far inferior player to Petry both defensively and offensively, won’t get you very much.

Canucks made a mistake committing to this core. As soon as the OEL trade was inked (bottom 3 trade in franchise history the day it was made) they were screwed and needed to blow it up.

They should have sold off all of the UFA aged guys demanding big contracts and reloaded around the young guys.

A lot of the player's might individually be worth their contracts but the team isn't close to contending so long as OEL and Myers are making 13 mil and are two of your top 3 dmen.

Pretty much this but didn't answer the OP and one has zero idea what the offers were but for too long the Canucks have been resigning players thinking they are close to a SC or something when in reality they are close to a playoff spot and that's it.

just not a good long term strategy here.

I don't think Poheling was in that deal to make up the difference between Petry and Matheson, as the Pens gave a 4th rounder which is the usual offering for an unestablished kid who is either going to get traded or lost for free on waivers.

But otherwise, fair point. Myers' value probably isn't above Petry.

As for Vancouver and Miller... asking this after a short body of evidence at the worst time feels a bit misleading, but I guess since I felt like they shouldn't have resigned him at the time, I still feel that way.

Wow really?! Didn’t know his value had fallen so much….

Outside of his rookie year and the Covid shortened season, Boeser’s production feels like a product of his ice time rather than ability. I think he’s still a guy GMs would see potential in, but I don’t think they’d pay anything of value for him. Especially with the team in disarray.

There is no reason to keep a almost 30 year old coming off his career peak year and sign him to a super long deal unless you are sure you're near contention.
