So, we all think that this team "Colorado Avalanche" made this terrible mistake of trading Rantanen and now he is destroying his previous team. So bittersweet. But ever since this trade we knew this going to happen. Written in the Stars. So, I'm asking you guys. Was this the worst trade ever in NHL history? I don't know anything what even comes close. Do you know? And all this was because Colorado could not pay his salary. Well, now Mikko Rantanen can finally show his skills.

It was a hardcore fumble for sure.

Especially when Lebrun pretty much confirmed had the Avs confronted Mikko and said take this or you’ll be moved, Mikko would have taken the deal.

It was nowhere close to the worst trade in NHL history.

But it was a bad trade (he would've re-signed) and it blew up so spectacularly in their face in a way that no other trade has before. (He basically singlehandedly eliminated them in Game 7).

Nope. They got a solid return for him. That alone puts it above Erat for Forsberg.

EDIT: not necessarily saying that’s the worst trade ever, I just think it’s worse than the Rantanen trade and it’s the first wtf trade I thought of

Gretzky trade. And before someone comes along saying it wasn’t for hockey reasons, yeah we know. It’s still the worst trade in NHL history.
Dunno. Gretzky eliminated them in '89, but they won another cup in '90 (sweeping the floor with the Kings along the way, 0+1=1 Gretzky never won anything again anymore). Who knows whether that would still have happened without the trade.

Had the Oilers kept Coffey as well and Gretzky they would have had a dynasty that went well into then 90’s.

Lmao what? So that team won in ‘90, but if you add Gretzky back onto that same team, suddenly it’s questionable if they would’ve won? How tf does that make any sense?

Some of the posters here must work for f***ing buzzfeed or something. How many hyperbolics threads are we gonna get every time someone does something?

WAS THIS THE WORST POST IN THE HISTORY OF HOCKEY FORUMS?! Lets discuss.
This is just a conclusion. Probably the worst trade in NHL at least this season. Thanks for your argument though.
