Proposal: Toronto-Rangers

I learned a long time ago that what goes on here is in no way connected to the actions in the NHL. No GM gives a damn what is said here, none of them come here for insight or advice, and they certainly don't base their player evaluations on wjat is posted here. If Drury or any other GM made a move based on what happens here, they need to leave.

Conversely, I have watched instance after instance of keyboard GMs declare players to not be of NHL caliber, to have negative value, to require massive retention and assets added just to dump their salaries turn out to be 100% wrong.

Most of what is said here is fan bases taking the opportunity to troll opposing fan bases. There's not alot of facts being traded here, and fan base approval is in NO way connected to actual NHL roster moves.

But I will plant my flag on the top of "KAM is NOT tough as nails" all day every day. If there is one truth you find here all day, it won't be any truer than that.
You speak the truth. I was just trolling you. KAM is anything but physical.

Listen I’m not saying he’s McDrai in the playoffs or anything but he carries over his level of play from the reg season. Same cannot be said about the other TML big guns
How do you figure? Marner is better PPG and Matthew’s is basically the same PPG. not to mention Matthew’s and marner are way better defensively in the playoffs.

Curious how Ranger fans value Cuylle and Miller individually asset wise in a trade. Cuylle seems to be a promising powerforward in the Knies-ish mold? Probably off limits I'd assumed. Miller has good size, could he bounce back as an offensive 40ish point 2nd pairing type long term?
Cuylle is future captain material. He won the team's extra effort award this past season. 20-25-45 season was really encouraging for just a 23 year old. Has an above average wrist shot, drives to the crease, great battler along the boards, really opens the ice up for his linemates, kills penalties, really very consistent, drops the gloves really only when necessary. Every team would love a Will Cuylle in their lineup.

Hits EVERYTHING. To put that in more perspective, Cuylle was 4th in the league in hits at 301. More hits than Jack McBain, more hits than Tom Wilson, more hits than Brady Tkachuk. He had more hits than the Jake McCabe, OEL, + P.Myers COMBINED. I don't see the Rangers trading him unless they are getting themselves a top player. Even then, you could trade Cuylle for Crosby and most Ranger fans would still be upset.

Miller is a great skater who has great athletic stats but his body moves faster than his brain. Capable of end to end rushes but again, see brain. His mental resiliency isn't quite there but that was a pattern we saw on the team last year. I could see him having a Josh Morrisey type of career where if the Rangers are patient enough, he could one day be a 1D but it'll take like 2-3 more seasons under Sullivan for that to happen. He relies too much on his stick to block the play and not enough on his athleticism and body to smother opponents. He's not rough enough with opponents. Needs to battle on the boards harder. He does hit more (107) than many similarly sized defensemen (e.g. Tyler Myers, Hedman, Oleksiak, Hamilton, Burns, Hague, Carlo) but I'm not really sure how hits are being credited because it never feels like he's hitting all that much.

This is such a laughably bad trade for the leafs. As someone who has followed both these teams well.

Kreider - Washed, carried by Panarin, useless at even-strength, has injury problems. Only strength is penalty killing

Miller - One of the dumbest hockey player's I've ever seen. He makes Mo Rielly look good defensively . Is average in the offensive zone.

Cuylle - Young underrated power forward with 65 point potential. Great player

Nylander - Elite offensively, one of the most talented NHL players. Not good defensively

Rielly - Very good offensively, suspect defence

Mcmann - Shittier version of Cuylle

I

Kreider and Panarin have been on separate lines for years. Hard to be “carried” by someone who isn’t your linemate.

I think the Leafs are committed to keeping Nylander and using assets (picks/prospects) to trade for the guys they want. Not sure what those Ranger players would cost? But Krieder certainly should be a target.
Aside from Easton Cowan and Ben Danford, we don’t have any really good prospects, and no 1st round picks until either 2027 or 2028.

I do like all the Rangers players, but Nylander is the last player the Leafs would/should be looking to move.

if it was a sign/trade Marner rather than Nylander, then you may have something
Personally I believe that none of the core should feel safe. Their no shows in the last 3 games of any playoff series, as well as their 0 for 7 record in game 7 of all of their playoff series, proves
that.

A Toronto fan who believes is in the core is not "typical".

Toronto management is the one that's repeatedly believed in this core and that is why there are so many Maple Leafs fans proposing various deals (even bad ones) to get rid of them.

On a related note, I overall like the your trade proposal and if Willie is going to waive I'd imagine a city with a direct flight to Sweden would be appealing. Come playoff time guys like Kreider and Cuylle will bring the time of mindset and style the Leafs desperately need in their top 6.

Still, Nylander is likely not waiving, period, so unfortunately any trade involving him is almost certainly not happening.
How many teams are successful in the playoffs when their top players don’t have that “DNA” in them to play the way they need to (win at all costs) in order to win multiple rounds? That HAS to be in their DNA as well!

NMC clauses make it next to impossible to trade these players. With the Marner and Tavares contracts expiring the Leafs move off two. They need to find guys with the right “dna” in free agency. They could trade too, but (from trading here) lack picks and prospects to land big fish.

I agree. But what I’m saying is that none of the core 4 have that DNA, so it won’t matter who they bring in. The leaders need to have that DNA, and then you look to bring in other players who also possess it. It needs to start at the top.
And the NMCs and NTCs that management gives to their players is ridiculous, I mean even Kampf has one, doesn’t he? How many other teams give that to a bottom 6 player?

Bring in guys who become the leaders and make someone like AM a complimentary piece rather than the focal point.

Apparently just over 30% of NHL players have a NTC or NMC.

Was it this season Sam Reinhart got into a square off, full on, face punching fight with a guy known as a fighter? I think so, and Sam stood in there toe toe. He get beat up. But he gave some good face punches too. That’s the dna the Leafs core guys need. Matthews is 230 pounds! He should lead like Reinhart. He won’t though. Different dna.

That wouldn’t work, would it? Matthews is their top paid player and supposed leader, I can’t see them now making him a complimentary player.

How many of those teams give them to their bottom 6 players?

Are you nuts? This is absolutely awful for the Leafs. Willy is by far the best player in the deal. K’Andre Miller isn’t that good. Please stop making proposals, they’re all awful.
Not a Leaf fan but i also think the Leafs could easily do much better.
