How? They have zero flexibility cap wise and will need to trade assets very soon when Duclair is back. Their defense, minis Ekblad is also terrible. A top15 pick this year has more value than Laf.
I'd much rather OS Laf to the value just under a 1st rd pick and let the NYR deal with it than trade a 1st for him.

Or do something Similar to Kessel. "Whe give you 2x 2nd rd picks or the equivalent in prospects, take it or we OS your guy and you lose a 2nd pick"
We can debate all day about what Laf is worth but our opinions mean nothing. So I won’t waste time on it. But for the hell pf it I’d say he’s still worth a mid 1st pick this draft for sure.

& Idk. Panthers are just extremely underperforming this season. Given I haven’t watched them so idk how truly bad their situation is. I’m just surprised how low the pick is atm.

Offersheets rarely go through, but frankly yeah that would be the smarter choice from the Habs POV imo. They wouldn’t have to worry about Rangers returning the favour for a long time & it would be cheaper.

The Rangers aren’t trading a 21 year old, cost-controlled, former number 1 overall pick for a rental who they can’t even attempt to re-sign given their cap situation. Please people.

The Canucks had been interested in a lot of things, and none of it's happened. Why is this even news...

With the beating that the organization is taken over the last couple of months between the coaching saga and the horvat contract stuff, this just screams needing to put something out into the media that gives the fans some hope of positivity. This is kind of pathetic honestly and it's silly how many people are running with the bait

As a Nucks fan, no way the Rags are doing that. Miller’s new contract makes him valueless given his play and attitude so far this season

Miller may not be captain material but he makes the Rangers that much better. Canucks only hurt themselves by signing Miller to that horrible contract, what was Rutherford thinking?

He’s one of the most credible beat guys in the league…
I follow him. I don’t have an issue with him. He’s pretty reliable when it comes to contract stuff. But his trade rumours have been pretty much all miss. He was right about Vancouver having interest in Bear. He said Carolina was very interested in Hoglander. He linked both Boeser and DePeitro to Montreal. He says stuff to get clicks. Just like every other “insider”. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say take this report with a grain of salt

It’s a disaster. The $ and term on that deal makes him pretty much untradeable for anything of value.

Sure, he’d make the rangers better in the short term but not long term with the money they’d have to move out to fit him in, not to mention the decline in play in the latter part of the deal.

That might be true, but to be fair I read all the posts about the JT Miller saga last TDL. Maybe your organisation had an asking price that was too high? Maybe he was never considered for trade, I don't know. But many Canucks fans here were pretty delusional about the return for Miller. Sometimes it's smarter to lower your ask. You would have gotten a better return for Miller at the TDL even with a lowered asking price than you will get now. It's funny now it's the owners fault but all the Canucks fans said Miller should not be traded unless the asking price was met. Well, the fans got what they asked for didn't they?
Apparently we had a deal with the islanders but someone it was nixed by the our side.

Didnt he say that the sens were trying to get Myers for Zub... Then Zub just signed a 4 year extension with the sens...
? Yea and ? He was reporting that the Canucks was trying to make a trade.

Nothing. Owners made our management do it.

Management was probably thinking let’s not sign him yet and keep options opened for a trade or at least sign him next year to see if he’s legit. That was the plan. Owners stick their nose in and now they pay the price for going against the advice of the people he hired.

We can + will add moving Lindgren 3 per, replace w/elc Robertson to scrape up cap, along w/replacing Halak w/internal, like garand, elc saves close to another 1m.
We have some dead cap coming back
Don't have to renew Vesey, Carpenter
Cuylie replacing Blais if nec
and last resort can deal Goodrow

All those guys + Krav require $$$ but they all see NY is a good situation and Trouba's 8m will be repurposed
and bread is not even gonna get an offer, so he will approve an exit before

bottom line: super tight but doable

No, this is a fallacy that must be crushed, and bern will do so at every turn

1. Rs best mathematical chance to win a single cup, let alone multiple cups, is to lengthen their window, which they can do b'c core is young
Win now does not guarantee, b'c championship can't be guaranteed, team improvement, often temporary, is not enuf
win now = fail 99%+ of the time

no

bold is not accurate
yes, the hype was wrong and he is not Jagr
yes he was abysmal up to about a yr ago
but now clear, w/linemates that have chemistry = kid line
and improvements to skating to at least get to par,
he is trending up, not down
maybe not rising like a bullet, but still, it is up NOT DOWN

pls note above
win now inferior to multiple bites of the apple

I agree w/you as to sell high making sense and risk assessment is part of that
BUT
a vet return is not the answer

Answer is high quality youth, which keeps cap down, allows us to max keeping young core together
But it's also not a store where you can get what you want. Horvat would be a great target not just for what he can bring, but because he is actually available. Whatever assumption anyone has about what the Rangers are and what they need can be tossed and re-written if a talent like Horvat is available.

Plus apparently Vancouver seems to want Lafreniere.

If they really are. Then it will be a proverbial death sentence for Podkolzin's Canuck career.
They already got Mikheyev and Kuzmenko, which led to sending him to the AHL.

Now if they get another forward? Buh-Bye Podz

From the source:

Lafrenière will not be cheap but the Canucks have the assets like Bo Horvat to pull this off, if the Rangers decide to move him.
Nothing wrong with that. The Canucks can be interested in Lafreniere, and Horvat is an asset that can pull it off. Doesn't mean they'd be trading Horvat to the Rangers for him, they'd be better set to trade for him if they maximize value for Horvat elsewhere. The best value they'd get trading Horvat would be for futures at the deadline, but Canucks management isn't really interested in futures, so they could stock up at the deadline (not looking likely they'll get back to playoff contention) then do target Lafreniere in a sort of trade back either at the deadline or in the summer. Having at least another 1st rounder for trading Horvat I'd imagine the Canucks own 1st could be in play at that point, in a Kirby Dach like deal.

You’re not getting Laf for rental
It's not like Lafs value is increasing the further away we get from his draft year.

I honestly think the Canucks could do better as I'm skeptical on Laf turning out would have liked to see more from him and/or better development but maybe he is one of those guys who looks like he is a can't miss in junior and then misses.

Only player on the Canucks I’d do it for since Pettersson is untouchable, is Hughes. Laf & Schneider for Hughes & Podkolzin?
Seriously dude you need to share what you are having cause it sounds absolutely mind-blowing.:thumbu:

If Rangers trade Laf they will need another LW so what about Laf for Kuzmenko? Kuzmenko is better player right now and for a few another years at the very least. He's Russian so probably wants to play in NY so Rangers can expect a discount if they decide to resign him.

Same issue as Horvat. Can’t re sign him.
