Pretty meh player

But there is GM’s who still use the word “pedigree” in this league.

So don’t be surprised if he brings pack a pretty decent return.

It’s crazy the way people talk about the cap on here. It’s as if they think money can only flow one way in a trade.

Literally anyone who can be moved for cap purposes on the Rangers has a NMC. $ essentially does only flow one way when it comes to trading with Rangers

I might do that. Depends on how Mesar finishes this season. Mesar could end up just as good as Lafreneire in the end. Difficult to project.

I would offer this at the deadline though...
Anderson with Retention down to $4M
for
Lafreneire

Rangers likely decline but Anderson at $4M does help their RW side. 20 goal guy who plays a valuable playoff type game and the $4M cap hit fits.

I see a RW hole on the Rangers.

I see the reasoning but yeah I wouldn’t be interested in that from a Rangers POV.

You guys talking about the 1st + prospect definitely makes me interested though. I’d be happy seeing Laf go to Habs and do well.

I understand the decline of the offer. It's the best we can offer this season.

Forget about Anderson for a second. Am I correct that the team need is a RW for the Rangers?

Yep, that would be something the Rangers are looking for. TDL or UFA. Ideally Kakko fills the 1/2 RW spot but after that you got Krav, Vesey and a filler for the 4th line.

Props for at least trying to work out reasonable and realistic trade options that cover the needs of both sides. The popular thing to do is to take an expiring player on your team and treat him as a universal currency that all other teams SHOULD want and then plug him on those teams for whatever you deem is fair. I.E. J.T. Miller and now Horvat. And look where that's gone.

And then said tram will OSheet him to the max value of a 2nd round pick next year and you lose him for even worse!

Good talk!
Just like they were going to offer sheet Kakko.

Good luck with that.

If the Rangers make a move, It appears it will be for a RW player. $3M -$4M in cap space available. That's what I see from the outside looking in.

Retention would likey have to be at play. Boeser and Anderson are two RW players available. Who else? Rangers might make a move for P Kane but even at 50% retention, they have to make more cap room. Not impossible to accomplish so I'm very curious

I see laf as a canuck for some reason. Rags are gonna cut bait from this. It's a mess for sure.
It’s a tough trade to make. The value simply isn’t there, we’d be paying for pedigree at this point. I simply wouldn’t offer much for that. At this point, I think Rangers would be better off keeping him than accepting his current trade value, and hoping he finds “it”.

At least he’s cheap, and it’s not like this guy is 25. There’s still time. IMO, Rangers screwed up his development by having him in the league as a 19 yr old. Not every top pick is ready for the show right away, why force it?

I can't think of a single top ten "bust" that was dealt away and panned out. I don't see Laf as being a Yakupov like fail, but more along the lines of Daigle, likely etch out a 500 game career on a middling team.

If the Rangers didnt try to deal him before he was scratched, than thats some pretty piss poor asset management right there. His value crashed like an Elon Musk play.

Dhaliwal is the same guy that said Montreal was hot to get Boeser (despite it making zero sense). I’d take this report with a grain of salt.

I think the hype around him, and the recent "right away" success that McDavid, Mathews, Eichel had recently had, its not surprising. Hockey fans were just spoiled by having some top tier talent all enter the game at the same time. The last few years have reverted back to the "norm", high picks staying with their junior teams, or AHL, before making the jump for the most part.

I like Laf but rangers in win-now mode and can’t afford to wait around to see whether or not he’s going to become what he was expected to be. If team can get immediate pieces now they should jump.

Horvat, or any other high-priced player, is a complete non-starter for the Rangers. We can't afford to re-sign him and we aren't trading Laf for a rental. End of story.

If you want to trade for Laf and bet on his potential, you need to offer a young player who is already playing well on an ELC. Don't want to do that? Then don't bother.
No team is going to offer a young player playing well for a young player thats currently a scratch

would the Canucks take Trouba along with Lafreniere? Rangers need to move out cap

haha your fellow nyr fans will have a conniption fit but lemme entertain for a sec laf + trouba for jt miller + myers (one year left, which you can buyout in the offseason if you want) + a small sweetener (hoglander?)

Every team in the NHL should be interested as this is NOT a Yakupov situation.

pits closer than you realize…

they aren’t going to get what they hope.

i think the drsft coukd be interesting.

Rangers offer him+ their pick ( say 13-18 range) for spa pick 3-7

Lafrenière is very underwhelming. Trading Horvat for him would be way too risky. I’d do Miller because we suck and his new deal makes no sense to a team entering the dark ages. It made no sense when this disparate and clueless management group re-signed him.

If Lafreniere’s trade value is anywhere near what Rangers fans in this thread think it is then he’s not worth trading for

These two teams making a big trade makes a lot of sense imo. I think this would work for both teams, obviously there may need to be some contracts added to balance out the cap, but this would be a good base for both teams:

To NYRangers: Horvat, Schenn, Lekkermaki, Aman, 2025 4th rounder

To Vancouver: Schnieder, Lafreniere, 2023 3rd rounder
