He hasn't been able to stay healthy the last several seasons and production is down. I suspect the consensus around the league is Hamilton is somewhere between a neutral and negative asset. Despite the cap going up, 10% of next year's cap is still a pretty significant allocation for a guy that hasn't been able to stay on the ice and hasn't been as productive when he has played.
I could see him being a lot easier to move after his 10M signing bonus is paid after July 1 and the actual $ owed over the remaining 3 is around 15M.
The health is a legit concern, but the production really isn't. The production is down largely because of the health, but his rate numbers are all pretty stable.
His 5 on 5 points / 60 are pretty stable during his devils tenure. 1.1, 1.5, 1.2, 1.3. This is pretty much in line with his entire career. His 5 on 5 shot rate was down this year, but was stable prior so I can't say if that is a blip or indicative of something else.
His PP production was down, but well within his career norms. 4.8 points / 60 on PP. His career has been 4.7, 4.7, 4.5, 3.2, 2.7, 4.9, 6.5, 3.1, 6.7 and his shots per 60 on the PP was the highest its been since 2020.
There's not anything that suggests that he's slowing down in that regard. He's still very much an elite offensive performer from the blue line.
Is Casey in NJD’s long-term plans?
I’d think the Devs would want to keep Pesce, Kovy & Nemec; and with Hamilton still under contract there doesn’t seem to be much opportunity for Seamus.
Hard to tell what's going on there. The staff clearly doesn't trust him yet, which I think is okay. I do believe at some point that someone is going to be moved because of the way the contracts are set up, but with Kovacevic already hurt it wouldn't surprise me if they hold on to Casey to be the top AHL RHD who gets called up as needed. Wouldn't surprise me if he's moved at some point, but feels like a move that happens after this upcoming year.
