Very true. Add it to the list of Mittelstadt, Thompson, Girgensons, Ristolainen, Zadorov, Greg O'Renko who all come to mind as rushed since the dark age of Sabre hockey has descended.

Edit - forgot them stupidly hanging onto Krebs instead of doing the right thing there too before sending him down to work on his game. Too many to keep all of them firmly in mind at all times.

Both. It's both.

It's more than likely that the Sabres may not have taken the right guy at their draft spot AND didn't put guys in position to be maximally successful. But because we haven't put guys in position to be as successful as possible, we'll never truly know if we picked the right guy or not.

Let's say we take Martin Necas or Nick Suzuki or Robert Thomas in 2017 instead of Mitts. Do you think either reaches the level they're at now in this organization? I sure as hell don't think so.

The Sabres need to stop rushing their kids so they can properly develop.

Devon Levi is 2 years younger right now than Miller was when he was done in the AHL.

Any overwhelming negative opinion you have on him based on a place he shouldn’t have been playing behind a dogshit team should be directed at Kevyn Adams alone.

Sabres Twitter is a bunch of idiots. I mean Askarov is still considered a high end goalie prospect. Levi has a lot to work on (namely giving up loud rebounds), but he’s far from a bust.

Plus as a late 7th round pick, he’s not a bust simply because he’s made the NHL.

This is his second professional season and he is the best goalie in the entire AHL.

I think he is being badly underrated by lots of people as those numbers speak for themselves.

When it comes to stopping pucks with his pads, the only tweak to his game that I would do is to pull his leg back a bit, so basically it softens the puck hitting his leg, instead of basically being a solid wall. That lets the puck not bounce away as much. Plus leg movement allows him to redirect pucks to locations.

As it stands right now, he’s too good for the AHL but not good enough for the NHL. Not that it exists anymore, but at this point he’d be better off in the 1990s IHL, as to me that league was in between the AHL and NHL.

I'm just happy he's where he belongs, and developing nicely.

Am I wrong to see Dustin Wolf similarities here? Undersized goalie, best in his league at several levels, showered with awards, 2-3 years improving in the AHL, and then ready for the jump to daily duty in the NHL.
