Who are the pro comps for Slaf and Jiricek respectively, if they hit their ceilings and floors? It doesn’t sound like either will be a bust and I’m certainly not risk adverse. If their ceilings are both sky high which appears to be the case, a deciding factor for me could be who is safer.
I don't know much about Jiricek, but I'd say Slafkovsky's floor is Puljujärvi and ceiling something between Rantanen and Nichushkin.

I posted this before... I'd let AZ know Seattle is willing to trade with us to leapfrog them, hoping that AZ covets Cooley enough that they offer us something significant to trade up 1 spot and prevent it.

Yes, I can be evil at times. :gargoyle:
Ah very nice, very evil, very drafthausen

These articles are always weird to me coming from the team. I don’t know if I should read into them or not. It basically says that Wright, Cooley, and Slafkovsky are the top 3 prospects and it’s likely that devils get one of those guys. They also said that Nemec will be the second Dman and second Slovak taken in the draft. Is this coming from team scouts?

You can get a good look at a players potential by sticking your head up his ass, but I’d rarher take Peter Forsberg’s word lol
What in the actual f*** is this reply?:laugh::laugh:

A simple "nah. You crazy" would've sufficed. haha!

Besides...sticking your head up someone's ass is a bit too personal. :naughty:

You came to that thought because he wears 60 in TPS and wore in 8 in the Olympics, right?

60 + 8 obviously Jagr!
tbh, Jim....No, I didn't even consider that.

Holy...s--t....

The better question is whether Slfkovaky will be a better than .66 ppg player for his career by the time he’s 25. Odds say he will be. He’ll also be cheap for the near future, which will allow the Devils to add an additional quality player or two that they otherwise might not be able to.

The only player I’m trading the pick for who might plausibly be available is Matt Tkachuk.
The utter fascination with this guy by a good amount here sure is something else.

Have you seen what an "impact" he's having in the playoffs thus far?

You want "that" eating up our cap space?

Not believing a word of his GM-speak here.

Slaf is more than likely going to be his pick (and I think he knows that, too).

There’s a rumor of this line that people cross…I have yet to locate this “line.” It doesn’t even show up on google maps lol

i wouldn’t read anything into it. these kinds of articles are written before the lottery, then edited to reflect the events of the day. means nothing

The “smell-test,”, the “gut”, ole “eye-ball-test”; whatever you wish to call it, all indicate Slafkovsky to be a meatball or a bust.
Cooley, while definitely not a glaring nor pressing need, should be the unquestioned pick.
BPA in any major sport’s draft is the way to go.
“Filling a need”, more often than not goes down the wayside.
I will take the shifty, speedy, & skilled playmaker-with a sure shot.
Whatever Fitz might have said at his exit interview presser about beefing upfront, I’d still lean to add Cooley over the rest

Oh absolutely. :sarcasm:

But in all seriousness, you really believe that COOLEY is the BPA over Slaf? I mean...Seriously?

Cooley ismt clearly the BPA though. If he was miles better than anyone else , then I’d look into drafting him or tradimf down one spot but we have zero need for Cooley. We have three very good C . Who knows how effective Cooley would be on the wing. No thanks on Cooley. Not saying he isn’t a good prospect.
, but he is not the right prospect for us.

Its just wild to me that every organization employees dozens of scouts, because it would be impossible to take a good look at every player fairly, and then we have people here emphatically claiming certain players are going to be the best pick available.

Reality is that no one knows, not even scouts. However they use risk management in their decision process.

@StevenToddIves , here is a CRAZY-AS-HELL Hot Take here :

Could Slaf be like Jaromir Jagr-lite?

(yes I know Drugs are bad, mmmkay? lol )

EDIT : I posted this before I read your entire OP (I guess you do see some similarities to a young jagr. lol )
Jagr is my age (we were born on the same day, and Simon Nemec also shares our birthday, albeit 32 years later) so I remember when he first entered the NHL. He was a far superior pure goal scorer to Slafkovsky, which is why I wouldn't lean too hard on the comparison.

What the two players have in common is a rare combination of size/strength and puckhandling, which enables them to hang onto the puck for far longer than most players, even while being actively defended. They also both share elite vision, which enables them to use this extra time to lace high-end feeds to teammates. This combination of rare abilities is the one comparable I would draw between Jagr and Slafkovsky.

Really? He has better vision than Bratt?

That is some INSANE vision then, good sir. 😲
...potentially, yes -- but not currently because Bratt is entering his prime, while Slafkovsky is still a long way from his own prime.

Jiricek and Slafkovsky have an intensity about them that we can all agree is lacking here, outside of Wood. You could call it overzealousness at times but these guys are not neutral or passive. Both probably a bit undisciplined to my eyes but for this group at this time, I'd rather have some guys who need to be reined in.

If Zetterlund sticks, you sign a Niederreiter/Nichushkin and then add Slaf or Jiricek, I think that's a welcome teamwide character change and probably exactly what Fitz is looking for.

As I said I have some concerns and am not convinced on Jiricek. I like Nemec more
What concerns? Jiricek could play on an NHL 3rd pairing right now. Honest question, not being combative

Agree. I would be very surprised if the Devils pick played in the NHL this year. The Devils have plenty of young F's looking for time this year and they will likely add one from outside the org as well.
Disagree. Jiricek could play in the NHL right now.

Don’t feel like writing it out. There’s a few things. Go back and look at my previous posts about him. It’s probably pretty easy to look up.
Main concerns are sloppy skating and lack of poise.

And no chance in hell he could play right now.
