These are all fair points, but maybe Wright also wouldn’t care if the team is successful and if he can help the team.
I mean probably not at first. But I would and I’d imagine he would at a certain point. If it’s holding him back from becoming a star player and getting opportunity to lead a team, put up numbers and get a big contract than he will.

Another Slaf article, this is from the Montreal beat writer:

He feels Slaf is more boom/bust, but also goes on to say, Slaf has improved throughout the season. It seems, for every negative, there is a counter argument. If he makes a bad decision one shift, he makes a spectacular one the next. His production was “meh” with TPS but was outstanding internationally. His skating was so-so but it has improved. Sometimes he attacks the middle/ defenders, sometimes he takes the puck down the boards. It seems a lot of scouts, would rather drop him to 5-7 range than be forced to give a projection. I think the high grades on Kakko and Pool Party make media scouts nervous to predict Slaf’s upside.
Well let's all hope Fitz doesn't second-guess things.

Just draft Slaf and we'll see where we go from there.

Slaf got some love on Spittin Chiclets today. Murley said the last time a player did this type of stuff and kind of surfaced out of nowhere that he could remember was Draisaitl. They said he doesn't think he'll fall even to three and wouldn't be surprised if Montreal takes him although they don't see Montreal passing on a Canadian kid. I remember Whit and Grinnelli talking up Cooley to NJ a couple episodes ago too so take it for what it's worth.
Cooley to NJ would happen if Slaf never existed.

(Or maybe Fitz would've preferred one of Jiricek/Nemec instead)

Habs fan here, I love the discussion you guys have been having on top prospects on your boards. I'm pretty sure CH will go for Wright, we desperately need a center IMO, but I've been confused with all the love Slaf has been receiving since the WC. I'm not really concerned with the choice your team makes, as I feel your core is already close to blooming into something relevant.

Our board draft geek has us sold on Slaf. And he fills a need in terms of talent/size/interior play ability at the wing position.

The WC has helped snow ball the effect.

Ashton Kutcher Jr has Fitz’s attention as he discusses his off-season workout program and anti-human trafficking advocacy.

@StevenToddIves is proud to be one.

And we love him for it. ;)

And yeah....his strong showing in the WC solidified our decision that he's just what the Devils NEED (and is the BPA as far as I'm concerned).

Wolf is a better answer than lion; if you think this question has any real bearing to personality on or off the ice.

I hope some smaller guy said something odd like Spider Monkey.

I don't know why it has to be a modern animal. If you want to portray yourself as some sort of mighty hunter or top of the food chain animal isn't a T-Rex or Deinonychus a much scarier more powerful animal than a lion?

Wouldn't that depend on the player?

But I do like that Slaf is a little off the norm.
I actually guess this is the type of question where the answer matters less than how the player approached answering.

Does a player giving an answer about something they may not understand as fully as they think say something about them?

Did they think about the question before answering?

Did they ask for more guidelines around the question before answering?

The psych part of the interviews is a lot of voodoo and inferring.

Or someone goes the crypto route and wants to be a yeti.

I'd stay away from legendary animals though since they can be interpreted too many ways by the teams. Is he afraid of humans and wants to live in a forest? Is he saying he can't be photographed clearly? Is he saying he doesn't actually exist? What can the aliens really be learning from all that probing? Too many unanswered questions.

I strongly feel if the Devils picked 3rd, they would take Jiricek/Nemec over Cooley. Again, with all the people attacking Wright and Slafkovsky (it's a three horse race!), you'd think Cooley singlehandedly carried the US-NTDP. But I watch a ton of the US-NTDP, and I don't think Cooley separated himself in any way as the best player on his own team.

Cooley is an exciting an dynamic player, and I think he'll be a terrific NHLer. But I wouldn't take him over Jiricek or Nemec right now, especially with the scarcity and value of top-pairing caliber RD at the NHL level.
