Couldn't find an appropriate census excel file, but here's a handy dandy map of urbanized land from this census report:

Notice how New Jersey has basically no white in it? Notice how it's nearly all in purple? Connecticut is the only state that even comes close to just how developed New Jersey is. We'll caveat that Rhode Island is too small to really judge.

Seriously, did you real think the state at the very core of the northeast megalopolis would be remotely competitive in this in any way? The Garden State thing dates to the days of Johnny Appleseed and has long since failed to reflect real world development patterns. There may still be a farm or two around, but apart from DC, which is not in fact a state, you're the national leaders in paving over paradise to put up a parking lot.

I live in Warren County in the northwest of the state and its absolutely beautiful. It definitely reflects being the garden state out here, its all farms and forest.

Cost of living is the killer.

Would have been better as a question: Will Devils win the President's Trophy? Even before the two games in Prague, I would have predicted that New Jersey will be in competition for that trophy. Cannot see 2024-25 not being a 50+ win season for the Devils.

No, didn’t you hear the social media manager “jinxed” the whole season. They’re screwed now.

It's not hard to make the connection that last year was the aberration due to injuries. Especially with a goalie now, they should win their division quite handily.

This is incorrect and my last post will reflect that

New Jersey is still filled to the brim with farmland and forests; the Pine Barrens ring a bell?

New Jersey near the city doesnt reflect this and thats all most know who are outsiders of the state, as its whats shown most in popular media

New Jersey is widely recognized as one of the best states to live and raise a family in, if you can afford it. Plenty of suburbs with high-ranking school systems

Sorry not every state can be huge with tons of unused space . Being 'urbanized' is in no way a correlation of how the state looks or feels when youre actually there

Dont like how many people there are? Fine. The prices? Suck. The traffic? Shit

But theres no reason to pretend New Jersey is some parking garage. It isnt anything near, no matter how much people want to believe so

Dude, this is just embarrassing.

It is very literally not filled to the brim with farmland and forests. It is literally the least filled to the brim with those things of any state. You haven't destroyed all of the farmland and forests yet, congratulations. That's a very low bar. As much as you want to say the whole state isn't a parking garage, it is the most paved over state in the nation. Parking garages are the wrong analogy- it's massive suburban strip mall parking lots.

New Jersey being highly urbanized does not mean it's a bad place to live. Suburbs aren't nature, but they're popular for a reason, it's a pretty comfortable way to live for a lot of people. Saying that the "Garden State" thing is a joke does not mean that New Jersey is awful- it just means that the development patterns turned that state nickname into a joke over a century ago. When you're actually there, the endless seas of pavement may seem normal, and when you drive to nature, you may think, 'see, we have plenty of nature!' because the strip malls are just background noise to you. When you visit, you notice just how extreme and unusual the development there is. It's like when your house smells. Your brain tunes it out and you just stop noticing. (Insert Bayonne joke here.) Visitors will notice.

I agree this thread has run it's course and should be shut down. It's basically one dude talking shit for an entire fanbase and now it's about if the state is good or bad instead of about hockey.

They will only make the playoffs if Hamilton stays healthy.
