I think you're missing the point...the point was moving Mercer back to wing. If the assumption is Mercer is better at wing... Holtz simply isn't better than Mercer as a RW option.

Maybe Zetterlund? But that's your only option really.
I would do:

Tatar-Nico-Zetterlund
Bratt-Mercer-Holtz
Palat-Haula-Yegor
Boqvist-McLeod-Bastian

Nothing will be pretty without Jack, but I’d spread the wealth.

You want to force Mercer at center solely for the purpose of getting Holtz in the lineup....when the staff did exactly that the last game and obviously didn't like Mercer at center.

I would be comfortable putting him with an elite play driver. Last year he centered Bratt and Johnsson for a stretch (CF 55%, 60% xGF, goals 13-9).

Yes Rask (backup) is a winner too, but Niemi is the only starter. Rask lost both his finals.
I actually forgot Rask was in two finals as a starter and the one finals I remembered was 2013 against Chicago in the lockout season.

I'm like ''What other year did he lose in the finals?'' it only took 10 seconds to remember it was 2019.

That was weird. I picked Boston to win that year.

That 2019 Blues team will go down as being the odd man out. Nestled in between the closest thing to a dynasty in the last 40 years in the Hawks 3 wins, 2 in 3 years Kings, 2 in a row Pittsburgh cups and Ovechkin's only cup before it, and the 2 cups/3 finals in a row Lightning cups right after it.

Starting goalie was one of the most rando cup winning starting goalies of the last I don't know how many years. Even more random than Cam Ward, who becomes less random due to that Conn Smythe, although he's the most random Conn Smythe winner, but that's for a different story.

And the Conn Smythe winner that year is also a complete and utter rando in the grand scheme of things. At least between 2015 and 2022. I think it's a pretty safe bet that Ryan O'Reilly isn't a hall of famer, but his win was right in between Duncan Keith/Crosby/Crosby/Ovechkin and Hedman/Vasilevskiy/Makar. All of those guys are gonna be in the HOF (Makar is certainly pacing for it) and he isn't.

There was also Justin Williams in 2014 that isn't an HOF'er, so it's not like he's the most random one in years, but still a very random one to go along with that random team to win the cup.

And then you got Craig Berube in between a LONNGGGGGGGG list of guys that are either HOF head coaches or at the very least very long term tenured coaches.

Quenneville x 3, Julien, Sutter x 2, Sullivan x 3, Cooper x 2.

Enjoy, Markkanen is having a monster year
I saw him play the Pelicans, He’s a player who is very smart and has nice touch with the ball. He gets more rebounds than he should because he has good positioning. He has tremendous wingspan even if he isn’t that strong or fast or athletic.

I'm not sure if Raanta technically has a cup ring or not, but I guess he does? I remember when he said he wished they would lose so he could go back to Finland sooner, and I RIPPED him for that at the time and said that I hope he didn't take a cup ring if they gave him one, as he couldn't have cared less to be there.

Rask definitely has a cup, but he was the backup to Thomas for that playoffs. I'm not even sure if he played in relief in the playoffs that year or not?

Lots of people get rings, that’s up to the team who gives them out.

And yes, Raanta did take his, thank you very much.

Raanta didn’t get his name engraved on the Cup though, there’s rules for that.

Back-up goalies get on the Cup (as a roster player). You’re right, Rask never played and is on it.

I think the BMW line has been better the last couple games but the usage is the biggest problem. They get overplayed and relied on too much cause couple years ago they were elite at what they did. For whatever reason Ruff thinks its a shutdown line eventhough they get pinned so often. Especially at home Ruff uses them in a very dinosaur coach kinda way.
May have been true in the first few games after Bastian's return from injury.

In the game against the Kraken it was them doing the pinning - especially in the second period.

There is a reason they are usually deployed following goals; immediately establishing play in the offensive end and gaining momentum.

Yeah they had a pretty good game against the Kraken, wish they had a single other good game this year

This is exactly how LOSER Martin Jones got his name on the cup.

Though I do remember him playing in relief of Quick, in I wanna say both games 1 and 2 of round one in San Jose? Where Quick had 2 games in 2014 which looked almost identical to a Quick game in 2023. He was overcomitting on everything and being too aggressive and slingshotting himself in and out of the San Francisco Bay for those 2 games.

I know... But its just been Wood has been so bad, it doesnt matter the role doesnt match anymore.

So now Miles Wood is the new Devil to bash? This group should have a guide for such things. Blackwood. Check. Haula. Check. Smith, Wood. Did I miss anyone?
