It’s not as obvious to me, they had Mercer slotted at C with Rango and Tatar just last game. Holtz needs top-6 time. He’s rotting away in the press box right now. At some point he needs a real look with players who complement his skillset.
They had Mercer at center last game and then move him back to wing the very next game ...

What does that say to you?

Problem is Holtz is not making these decisions difficult for the staff.

He had a good game last game and should’ve sticked tonight.

Hard to have a lasting impact when you have to play perfect or you get scratched. Don’t think he’s played more than 5-6 straight games this year.

He’s young and at some point he needs to gain experience with players who complement his skillset. I think there’s something to be said about being around the team even when you’re not playing, but it stops being valuable after some time when you’re never playing.

I don't disagree regarding opportunity. But right now the team needs to be concerned with winning first and the truth is he's not better than other options.

It's absolutely wild(pun intended) that Parise and Suter signed there over a decade ago now, never even made it past the 2nd round and both don't even play for them anymore.

LETS GO DEVILS!!!
And then they go out and acquire Fleury after he was reduced to a pile of charred bone dust.

And they even had Scott Stevens as an assistant coach there for one year, which I don't think anybody even remembers anymore.

I don't understand the connection? One is LW the other a RW...one has been a fixture on 4th line and the other should be a top 6 player.

Zetterlund is taking his spot...Wood really has nothing to do with it? You want Holtz to play 4th line LW and Wood come out?
Boqvist is one of the better forecheckers on the team and is perfectly capable of playing with McLeod on that 4th line. He’d be more effective, in fact. Holtz didn’t have to come out.

This post reminded me of superstar goalie Markkanen.

Rags and Oilers great.
Great for a pub quiz, who are the Finnish born goalies that have played in the Stanley Cup finals.

I believe the right answer is
- Kiprusoff (CGY)
- Markkanen (EDM)
- Rask (BOS)
- Niemi (CHI)
- Rinne (NSH)

Do i forget someone? I dont think Raanta played at all in the finals for Chicago in 2015.

Pretty ridiculous for me. I can’t stand continuing to see Wood in the lineup, even if that line was okay last game.

Bahl should be sitting too.
Bahl kind of has to play because of Smith's injury.

Or call up Okhotyuk, who had the worst game a Devils defenseman has had all year long in the last game he played.

I doubt we'd see Bahl if Smith were healthy. I can't stand him anymore either, but I don't think we have much choice to not sit him right now.

Yet another reason why trading Severson just to ''Get assets back so he doesn't walk for free'' is a bad idea. One injury and we're playing Bahl or Okhotyuk every night.

And that's just assuming Luke Hughes (who wouldn't even join the team at the earliest for like weeks after the trade deadline anyway?) takes Severson's spot in the first place.

Bahl and O aren't for the NHL in an every night role. O is a bit more of a question mark because he hasn't had as many games as Bahl has to evaluate much, but Bahl is no-count.

Nah Raanta was the 3rd goalie for CHI and told the media later on that he wished they would lose so he could get back to Finland sooner.

Also, Niemi is still to this day the only Finnish starting goalie to win the Cup.

I'm not sure if Raanta technically has a cup ring or not, but I guess he does? I remember when he said he wished they would lose so he could go back to Finland sooner, and I RIPPED him for that at the time and said that I hope he didn't take a cup ring if they gave him one, as he couldn't have cared less to be there.

Rask definitely has a cup, but he was the backup to Thomas for that playoffs. I'm not even sure if he played in relief in the playoffs that year or not?

I think you're missing the point...the point was moving Mercer back to wing. If the assumption is Mercer is better at wing... Holtz simply isn't better than Mercer as a RW option.

Maybe Zetterlund? But that's your only option really.

When he does he have a chance to change their mind? He's played 19 games this season and has played under 10 minutes in 10 of them. It's kind of stupid to say "earn it" and then put that player in a position that's likely to prevent them from being successful.

I get that we're actually good and that it's not as easy to just let kids play, but it's not like we're in danger of missing the playoffs if we give him a couple games with legit top 6 players.

Yup, Raanta made pretty interesting statements. I think he does have a ring, unless Chicago decided not to make him one. Come think of it, they might have actually opted not to.

Kinda get Raanta's point, the likelihood of him getting any action was super low
