Vince reporting that Buchnevich (Edit- may take) Strome's spot on PP1.
Very very good news, gives us dangerous shots from both sides of the ice now, and Buchnevich is just as good a passer.
Buch hasn't traditionally been a big scorer on the man advantage but I think this unit could really work.
Deangelo should request a trade, he wouldn't be wrong.
But we won in spite of that, not because of that. Sure ride the hot hand, no problem starting Georgiev over Shesty after the shutout. But going from Jack Johnson to the guy who was the 4th leading scorer among NHL dmen last season is a massive upgrade any way you slice it.

For getting scratched two consecutive games?
I mean, DeAngelo was a top 5 scorer in the league at his position last season.
A disciplinary scratch is one thing.
But to say you can’t work a player with that track record back into the lineup is patently absurd.
To me this makes a ton of sense. First because Strome has been awful so far, but second because you then keep the entire Zib line together which makes everyone synced up for line changes after the PP. A relatively minor thing, but an advantage nonetheless.
Imagine if the Rangers go on a 8-game win-streak and DeAngelo sits for 8 games...
Does that mean he is excluded from accountability?Yes, he has proven himself as a top offensive defenseman in the league, not some fringe player or first year guy who is learning.
Why?
What you can accept and what is acceptable to an NHL coach are two different things. Can't preach accountability and then conveniently look the other way.MacKinnon was 5th in the league in points last year. Would it be ok to bench him 2 games in a row? Deangelo was 5th among defenseman and should not have been benched let alone twice. I can maybe accept the 1 game if the coach really needs to send a message but not 2x in a row.

General question out of curiosity...does a healthy scratched player collect his salary for a game he was scratched?

Look, obviously ADA is a better player than Jack Johnson. I was against ADA sitting in game 2 to begin with but you have to reward the team that responded as perfectly as you can have imagined. Every single defender played better in game 2 than ADA played in game 1. And yes, that statement would have generally applied across the board, but the fact remains those guys who played stepped up.
With a D that is running Johnson, Smith, and Miller (who I like a lot, but no doubt he is going to have stretches where a game off is going to happen) he will be back in the lineup much sooner rather than later.

Keith Yandle, Kevin Shattenkirk, Erik Gustaffsson, Shayne Ghostisbehere....plenty of recent examples of top offensive defensemen being scratched for games here and there.
Keith Yandle has played 867 consecutive games.
