Threads move fast, but the mods love stupid mega threads so visitors like yourself have difficulty asking questions which sucks. I'd be down for Ryder and Clowe on the same line, a lot of juggling is going on now with all the new players

I think they are both too slow to be paired together. Elias and Brunner should stay together as I think they look really good together with probably Clowe as their 3rd. Ryder should be the snipper on a 2nd line with maybe Zajac and Henrique who both had good games tonight.

Sounds better than what I had at the Pens game yesterday. Their "7Up" tasted and smelled like hand sanitizer. Even burned on the way down. I lasted two sips before I stopped drinking it. The second was only to confirm what the first sip told me....

That's disgusting. I thought that arena was supposed to be top quality. I can never forgive an away teams arena for bad beverages.

I'll give the Devils a mulligan for using last year's keg of shock top.

No, I was kidding.

And to be completely fair, the Crazies aren't bad at all anymore. But they used to have some people up there in that section that acted like subhumans every game. Dunno if the subhuman people dropped their ST or were kicked out or what, but that section seems behaved now and has been for several years.

216 got a guy kicked out I think. Idk if anyone sitting near there could verify. But I agree there's no need for that and it pisses me off to no end that they move the rival fans to a better section...

Boo me out of my section please.

Agreed. There were at least 4-5 more, MAJOR D breakdowns that didn't happen to go in. By pure luck, and Marty.

All kinds of issues, lack of speed, (and disrespect of the other players' speed) and position issues coupled with hyper aggressiveness. Volchenkov should be playing soft as **** offensively and he keeps getting caught flatfooted way too far up the ice. The Grabner breakaway that was stopped was an abomination (Zidlicky's horrible attempt to step up/take a penalty before the blue line/whatever it was he was doing). The other D was caught pinching very deep

Then there was a play they replayed, I think it was during the 2nd period, where Ryder/Greene/someone else just continually botched their positioning down low chasing guys around, that led to an open chance dead low in the slot, which Marty got. Should have had the Benny Hill theme playing on that one.

What?! Its been two games!! Jesus you people are the kings of overreaction.

And don't say what do you mean you people!

More like he doesn't seem to have any legs or like the system and he could get pushed down the lines. I can't see him wanting to stick around playing with our 4th liners.

Cannot stress enough how bad Jagr has been so far.

I think the most concerning thing was how many times he fell down when someone leaned on him. Obviously nobody expected him to be a blazer at this point but he used to be as strong as an ox when he had the puck making it nearly impossible for an opponent to get the puck off him. Now, not so much. Imagine when he starts to wear down in February.

We're already too slow with guys like Clowe, Ryder, Volchenov and Salvador out there. Swapping Olesz or Josefson in for Jagr would give us a little more speed

Very lucky that Pete picked Elias third when he started picking guys out of a hat for the shootout.

Imagine if he picked him 7th or something??

I thought our PK looked good, even though we only went on it twice.

PP looked much better too. Brunner's second goal was seconds after the PP expired.

Really loving Brunner.

I didn't realize everyone was feeling so negative about that game.

We LOST a point.

Marty let in some softies that he couldn't.

Volch sucked as usual.

Pete is an idiot.

The beer tastes like Palmolive Dish-Washing Soap.

And the Goal Song sucks.

And you're wondering why everyone is feeling negative about that game? :help:

Wouldn't mind seeing Olesz and Josefson in one of those next two games.

Yeah, I don't understand how even Chico sees that Grabner get's breakaways every game against us, yet we still stand next to him and expect to get back in time. Volchenkov should be standing next to Marty when we have the puck to make sure he gets back in time.

I didn't realize everyone was feeling so negative about that game. Devils did a lot of good things. Their forecheck showed up like it didn't against Pittsburgh, which is a good sign because the Islanders are really good at moving the puck out of their zone.

Also, at least as of tonight, I really don't mind Salvador. I just wish he was on a team where he was the clear 6th defensemen and wasn't getting bingoballed around the lineup with everyone except Greene.

If anyone's been wearing out their welcome on D it's been Zidlicky. But he did have an assist tonight and kept the play alive in the O-zone numerous times.

This team will straighten itself out. We started last season on fire and fell apart. We started two seasons ago flat and came alive in the second half. No need to sour so quickly on a coach we all loved one-half season ago.

What I wanted to see tonight was improvement. I'd rather a win, of course, but more than anything I wanted to see improvement.
I saw that within the forwards, for sure. Some of the passing (Jagr, Clowe in particular) can be a lot crisper - but the cycle looks a hell of a lot better. That's a huge part of this team succeeding. I saw a lot more patience with the puck, a lot more awareness between linemates.

The defensive breakdowns were far too many for anyone's liking, but that's nothing that can't be tightened up as the games go on. A few of them seemed uncomfortable dealing with pressure at the point, especially after Grabner's 2nd.
We'll see how they adjust against Edmonton. That'll be the last real wide open game til the end of the month when Tampa comes in.

Volch and Larsson were definitely the worst with that tonight. Larsson is still raw enough where he can fix that. Volch... hopefully he gets more than a few nights off from here on out.

A few iffy moments in front of Marty, but I'd say they improved everywhere but the neutral zone.
As for the shootouts, if Pete's going to see what he has in a live game, considering Clowe/Ryder/Brunner/Jagr are still relative unknowns, I'd rather it be now than deeper in the season. It's early enough where we can find a way to steal that lost point back.

Long story short... I'm still here:

I'm surprised the brand of dish soap is known. That takes a connoisseur.

The goal song sucked the life out of the goal being scored which is the opposite of what a goal song should do.

Opposite actually. Jagr's go to move is to lean on the defender and outreach with one hand to protect the puck. He fell because he was either too quick to lean back or the defender anticipated it and backed off. That and every pass he's made these past two nights were turnovers. I think once he gets his timing back he'll be better. He has to right?

I actually thought that sounded strange so I changed it to specify it was SOAP.

I dont understand why he never uses Zidlicky or Harrold. They both have some offensive skill. It's like he doesnt know you're allowed to use defensemen unless it goes 13 rounds. Ryder is career <20%. So is Jagr.

He should just stay there his entire shift, because more often than not when he tries to do anything past center ice it's going the other way on an odd man rush.

You should be able to at least position yourself to make an illegal play if need be. Hell, you might get away with it, especially like tonight where they're not making calls. We have a hard time doing that.

Guys like Volch are so slow and so poor positioning themselves that they can't even take a penalty half the time when they're beat. They just get left in the dust.

Attendance: 16,624 (not a sellout). Capacity; 17,625.

Not sure if you guys saw that. They didn't announce it at the arena.

That's disappointing. Wonder why?
