Confirmed with Link: Devils trade 2nd rounder and Herman Traff for Brian Doumilin

if not a second then what would be a fair trade for this guy?
Its literally his market price. Its average deadline price for average borderline second-third pair defensive defenseman who can play defense. Its not overpay at all.

Would i like to use this pick for more long term piece - of course, but we didnt sign Kovy yet and Siegs can be out even for a year. And in the play off spot we cant just let it go, but we cant try to win play off spot without any other defenseman with Dougie and Siegs out.

This team cannot punt on making the playoffs, they simply can’t and it’s been discussed a lot already as to why
I disagree that punting on the TDL is punting on the playoffs. These guys should be good enough to make it as is. Too many players have simply not performed to expectation.

If this deal is any indication, all we’re doing is handicapping our ability to actually address roster issues longer term.

The chances of Dumolin coming here and being a decent stabilizing presence on the D and helping us stay in playoff position are probably better than either Traff or the ~58-64th pick turning into anything. The more pressing issue is could we have spent those assets better elsewhere? Dunno.

It would have been fun to have a pesky guy named Herman on the team though.
That's my thinking - the assets in a vacuum are whatever to get someone who can stabilize the D and play third pair minutes and maybe even come back on a cheaper deal next year as depth, but we have so many needs up front it's frightening and those 2nds and any "expendable" prospects should go to those needs probably.

I get where you are coming from but I have been asking for 2-3 trades since November. They needed help for a long time. Everything went right in November and December but they were always walking a tight rope with this roster this season until they made moves

Maybe I am not as overreactionary(did I just make up a word?) on this thread because I expected a crazy market this TDL with the amount of buyers vs sellers and with the caveat that Toms job is on the line (IMO). So I have been prepared for some wild moves

I agree, there's alot more upside to this trade than what appears at face value. Same GM that boasts about leadership experience ticks off the box with this Doomy acquisition. He will help on the PK, where we have a major absence with Siegenthaler out. Will also give Kovy a mental health break, so he won't forget to get to the red line before dumping the puck in. 😉

We have a GM who is trying to save his own skin with deseperation moves to keep the team afloat.....
We have a team currently without Hughes, Hamilton and Siegs....
We have a fanbase who is desperate to make playoffs....
We have a bunch of teams behind us with games in hand ready to reel us in like a big ol' fish....

Not exactly a recipe here for success. I'd rather us do nothing to be honest and look to next year instead of making desperation trades to save jobs and lose in the 1st round in 5 games....

We are currently 5 points in a playoff spot. If we stood pat or sold, its a horrendous look to everyone in the org.

Can't wait for giving up a prospect like Traff to come back and bite us in the ass when he turns out to be a great player for another team all for an UFA defenseman and this team to miss the playoffs. fvcking hell.

I don't think Fitz is on a hot seat. It's not the style of these owners who seem to want more of a team consensus approach on things. The team was comfortably in a playoff position when Jack went down. I don't think ownership is going to can Fitz if they believe the injuries doom them (let's not forget Siegs and Hamilton are out as well). I don't love the trade price but it is what it is. The tweet saying the second if the higher of EDM/WPG sort of suggests they can only now trade the lower of them. Sort of a weird trade condition that hamstrings the other second.
