Based on PuckPedia and AHL transactions, it looks like the Devils have done a bunch of paper transactions to maximize the cap relief from Bastian going on LTIR. On paper, Casey, Nemec, and Filmon are called up today before Bastian’s LTIR placement. Obviously, their press release means Foote, Bowers, Dowling, and DeSimone will be the actual call ups.

In very very simplistic terms, the closer you get to the salary cap ceiling before moving a player to LTIR, the more cap space you get from LTIR placement. If the Devils are $1,000 away from the cap hit when they place Bastian’s 1.35 million on LTIR, they can spend up to 1.35 million - $1,000 over the cap.

It’s why we’ve been seeing teams like the Leafs who have guys on LTIR and out for the year sign “PTOs” every year. They give those PTOs a contract to bring them closest to the cap when they register the roster on day one and get the fullest benefit from LTIR.

This is the game I’m dreading the most, and have the lowest expectations for, in no small part because I’ll be there lol.

A win would be a blessed wonder and Thanksgiving miracle lol.

Can they just trade for Labanc now instead of at the trade deadline? Columbus should be grateful for Severson.

I already forgot the Labanc tryout with NJ. Just looked at his stats with Columbus this season, 1 goal 9 assists 10 points, in 13 games. He would have been handy depth for NJ, if we managed to sign him.

I hate watching that 4th line. They're not even playing 10 minutes a game. Too much time on ice for the top three lines.

Without much salary cap to work with, can they send down Dowling, sit MacDermid, bring up Bowers at center? He won't wow anyone but he does bring some speed. What about Foote on wing? Nice shot brings grit and size. I'm just looking at internal options. If Lazar goes on LTIR, they could bring in a 4th line center via trade or waivers.

Any comets they can bring up? Improve that 4th line somewhat ? Better than what they have, maybe ?

Our combined record against Carolina, Tampa and Boston over the last however many years must be incredibly lopsided.

Did we beat Boston ONCE last year? I think we actually did win an OT game against them in December or was it November?

But we lost all 3 games against them in 22-23 when we were really good. We also went 1-1-1 against Tampa that year. We managed to go 2-1-1 (I think?) against Carolina that year.

I wanted to say Boqvist and Greer, but they're both on Florida now. I couldn't have forgotten that with seeing Boqvist play two nights last week. Both played for Boston last year. Or was Greer with Boston the year before and played somewhere else last year? I don't remember. Maybe he was there both years.

They currently have the most Devils castoffs, with Boqvist, Greer and Nosek. And it's not like Holtz and Schmid where they found themselves sent there in the same trade. They were all brought in seperately.

it feels so weird that there isn’t a game tonight OR tomorrow. Hopefully it evens out in a really helpful way at the end of the season. Having to go through a stretch like these 6ish weeks right before the playoffs seems like it would really take its toll.
