Enjoy ‘retirement’ Fat Mike.
I saw something that just broke the other day (after the NOFX finale) that Hopeless Records is going to buy Fat Wreck, which Mike still owns with his first wife.

That's gotta be worth a couple or few million, if I had to guess. Between that and the museum in Vegas (does he have a main ownership stake in that?) he's probably set for life.

As long as he still isn't spending several thousand a day on coke anymore.

The other members probably aren't all that set up for life. The one dude (drummer?) shapes surfboards and has been doing that for a while. I read him say somewhere that he even drove doing uber eats during the pandemic, because he didn't have enough money to retire if he wanted to. Maybe that's changed in the last 3 years they started to play shows again.

There was some ny times article I think about their “retirement” and it was clear only Fat Mike was retiring, everyone else still had bills to pay and was gonna work.

I snagged one of his autographed skateboards a month or so ago at at one of their last shows, had a weird face on it I had no idea was associated with his brand until I saw it on his kick drum on his their last show they just played and made the connection.

I've also saw people say that they were still gonna record and make new music, just no more live shows? I don't follow them too closely. They're not one of my favorite bands. They're okay. They're better than the 100 bands (mostly from Southern California) that sound like them, many of whom became huge. When I first heard Blink 182 I thought it was NOFX.

I'm interested to see him against any team that isn't Buffalo and not coached by Ruff. The whole team had a decent start against a floundering team with a new coach. Tonight will be a real test.
Not just new Kovy, but the whole team. I keep dropping "granted it was Buffalo" in my early season hockey discussions.

Let's get this one tonight.

I’m actually intrigued by a Cotter-Jack-Bratt line. Let him clean up their garbage and Timo gets to be the puck dominant guy on another line. Maybe the 3rd line with Nico?
Do we know if Cotter is a good garbage clean up guy? He looks good an the rush where he actually displays some puck skills. The highlights from Vegas were the same.

Meier is pretty good at it, including his goal last game.

Timo is probably the better dominant puck guy, but I think that part of his game has not quite lived up to the billing. He gets shots off which helps his possession #'s but I don't know if he is true possession driver.

But I do agree that Timo Hughes Bratt looks overly stacked.

He's just a steady player who plays hard and gives you everything he has. He'll make mistakes. He's not going to likely score a crazy high number of points. But he'll give you an honest, hard working effort each night with above average hockey IQ.

Interesting article from The Athletic looking at contention cycles. Devils are in the prime spot.

I liked how Cotter moved without the puck batting in front of the net. Way too early to know if he’s actually anything more than a guy, but there looks like there’s something there.

Seems very low on the caps current group.
Why? The window has definitely closed.

They look better on paper this year than last year, but last year on paper they looked like they probably should have finished with 80-85 points. Especially with Ovechkin not scoring 40-50 goals last year.

They way overachieved last year. That window slammed shut several years ago. They’re just patch working at this point to keep it competitive while Ovechkin is still playing.

They haven’t won a single playoff round since the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. Them and the Pens are cooked. The Pens haven’t won a round since 2018 either. Only the Pens missed two years in a row, while the Caps missed one year and made it the next.
