It is weird that Pesce has no points, but it's just a function of his pairing never being on the ice for goals for. It's more a reflection about how points for defensemen (and points in general) are usually bullshit.

1) Yes, eventually the On-Ice SH% for Pesce won’t be 3.75% and more points will be scored when he’s on the ice. Some luck is involved.

2) The Luke-Pesce pair have really grown. They’ve been great defensively in a bunch of games but they exploded into our best pairing in those Florida games.

The defenseman that Barkov ended up seeing the most and having the least success against? Luke.

They were a lot more active. More points will come on that pairing.

That's not how dougie drives play.

Dougie isn't going to make a crazy deke at the blueline. He makes good, quality, simple plays in the ozone, and forces other teams to respect him which opens up for his forwards.

Dougie over the last 3 years (including this year), is on the ice for 37 shots/60 5v5.

That is the best mark in the league among dmen.

If you go back and include 21-22 he's 2nd behind Bouchard.

And I would like to potentially turn that Kovacevic value into value that replaces the limited to non existent Dowling and Macdermid value, while allowing us to get the benefit of Nemec's value.
Really really strange obsession with trading a player that has been fantastic. No reason for it.

Yeah. What Kovacevic is doing is the dream. Fitz plucked a league minimum player and he's giving them solid results in a tough minutes role. And he's right-handed.

31 other teams wish they made that trade.

You can maybe upgrade Bastian (would be sad), but who would be looking for him, he would be a throw-in in a deal only. There is no one else to give - Haula is a glue guy, except for some prospects Lenni, Gritsyuk or blue-chips (Nemo/Casey)....but that would be INSANE on the blue-chips for rental material.

I don't think we want to give up more picks to get players, as you said we would need to fill the draft capital back at some point soon, since the last few years (Meier trade, etc).

It will be a challenging TD decision point for the GM, if we are in a similar position we are today.

This is where the crappy drafting is gunna hurt them.

I don’t hate the guy. The vast majority of his assists have been secondary and the result of being on the ice when our best forwards are working their magic. We are 20 games in and his shot is still not looking lethal like it used to and he’s even slower now than before and he was already dismally slow.

Without the goals and primary assists he’s just a JAG at best, but with diminishing skating ability he could be an absolute anchor at worst. I don’t think we’re there yet but it’s not exactly crazy to see it going that way soon…a player like this who loses his biggest strength can fall off a cliff very quickly.
I think Dougie has generally been good, but some of the cracks we're seeing are things I warned about a long time ago and I think are coming to pass.

Even before the injury, Dougie was never the fleetest of foot. I was concerned that any deterioration in skating would make him way too easily beatable. He's 31 so it just may be coming.

I knew 100% his shot was going to take a massive hit after the injury. Same thing happened to Matt Dumba. He used to be one of the top D-man shooters in the league. He also had a major pec tear and was never the same.

Zajac had Pectoral Surgery in Aug 2017 and had his 3rd best year in goals (19) and 2nd best season SH% (15.8%) in 2018-19 at 33.

Christian Dvorak had Pectoral Surgery in Oct 2018 and had his best season in goals (18) the next season and then his best season SH% (17.9%) the year after that.

Yeah, Dougie has to work his way back from the injury but we don’t have to assume he’s irrecoverably broken now.

I can't say I really know a whole lot about Frederick. But it looks like he's played every game for Boston and averaging the 7th most minutes amongst fwds. So I'm not sure how accurate these narratives are that he can't get in the lineup and is now on the trading block.

I do know he's a big guy who scored 35 goals the previous 2 seasons so that's something.

So I could see him as a guy who we plug into the 4th line for now, and could play in the top 9 if need be.

But yes it does come down to how you evaluate the player. But the $2.3 is a pretty low bar in terms of an evaluation hurdle.
since its been referenced 3 times wrong already, it was not Frederick that was a healthy scratch ...i said it was Morgan Geekie and that both would be the type of player the Devils should look at. it would require to make room for cap space and the b´s missing playmaking, so Tatar for one of those two could make sense for both sides, fixing two problems at the same time and you dont have to give up assets to do it. we need to find cheap solutions to upgrade our middle 6 and push others down

if they are looking to upgrade the 4th line it should be through waivers and guys on minimum deals.
they probably already have eyes on some players, otherwise could just bring up Foote for exapmple, Fitz was high on him no?!

No idea why everyone is concluding that Dougie's shot has taken a massive hit. Yes, he only has 1 goal, but he's a bulk shooter - I guarantee he's had 1 goal in 62 shot stretches before.

Because people look at it once you’ve played nearly a full season in the NHL, going back to the AHL is a clear step backwards
But if he's not better than what we are putting on the ice now then you can't leave him sitting on the bench. He clearly wasn't better than the 6 we are icing now. Not to mention, our D sucked last year and that's the only reason he was even here for a full season.
