About Bratt. He's a great player but he's in the same tier as guys around the league who have recently signed deals in the ~$8-8.5 mil per year range.

I think he's a polarizing figure because he's a smallish, enigmatic perimeter player, who is also perceived to be playing hardball with contract negotiations.

He's not the kind of guy fans can easily connect with despite his production, and when he isn't producing at that ppg pace, he's not good enough at other facets of the game for people to easily overlook it (as has been the case recently). He's the type of player that will need to come through with some playoff heroics to shed the stigma from many fans. Getting a reasonable contract worked out without more drama would also endear him a bit more.

He's just a weird case overall.
I think the "stigma" is there is because he's not signed yet.

Everything else you mentioned does play a part but I can safely say the main issue is that he's not re-signed yet.

Once he's re-signed, much of the bitching of his struggles will be far less than it is now.

It depends on the contract to some extent. There will be a few that complain a player making whatever he makes shoukd do more.

it wasnt even a 2nd, it was a 3rd!

I'm beyond frustrated that the Marino thread on the mainboards was closed.

That poster has a weird hatred for Marino’s game. He previously posted in tht NJ thread but then gave up. It seemed he couldn’t accept Marino as a good NHL defender at actually defending in his own end.

The devils score 3.55 goals per game, good for fourth best in the entire league. The highest scoring team in the league score 0.3 goals more per game…or to put it another way, one extra goal every three games. How much more finishing do you possibly think they could have?

I don’t understand folks who think this is a problem.
Fair point. My initial post was the dominance in puck possession yet being kept in close games. I guess some of that is due to puck luck or probably what's more of a concern is the defense. Was very high on this group but recently it's been less than stellar. 7/71 come to mind recently, bad clearances and decisions have directly led to goals.

I cannot stress enough how badly Hugues looks off, very uncharacteristic turnovers and forced passes.

As long as it's 8 years (I'll even take 7), I don't give a sh*t how much it is.

But yeah...I fully expect the latter, too.

But the vitriol is enhanced because Bratt's not signed AND his agent is an absolute butt-nugget.

In order to get him at 7-8 wed have to give him what hes asking for or slightly less

Thinking itll be a 5-6 year deal so it gets closer to Fitz' number

I dont think Fitz is willing yo go above 8m for Bratt and thats why he hadnt signed yet

I can't hear or see someone type "oh my" without laughing now. I blame you degenerates and Dano.

Someone messaged oh my at work today and all I can think of was them saying it in Dano voice. "OH MY PARTNER!"
Laughing at a coworker for saying "oh my" sounds like dangerous doings. You should change up your angle for a more delicious work experience.

If that's the case, then Fitz is a liar 'cause I remember him stating he wanted Bratt here for a long time.

I also remember him stating that "Term was not an issue".

BTW, there's a nice article about this here :

Im not sure what you mean. Of course Fitz wants Bratt here long-term!

Term isnt an issue but if Bratt wants 8.5-9 over 7-8 years then idt thats going to happen. Im thinking Fitz wants him at 8 or lower and will sacrifice term for it.

Either way getting Bratt signed for four more years is a win itself. Whatever extra in terms of saved AAV or more years is gravy IMO
