if you move bratt, it almost has to be a player-for-player deal given you don't want to really get worse in the present.. i.e. moving him to ottawa for debrincat. two guys in the same situation in terms of RFA status & appearing to have potential 'issues' finding a deal w/ their current club. not saying either team does that deal, but just a spitball.

That’s the last resort. You try everything you can before getting to that point. NJ doesn’t win that trade even if it would be salvaging a bad situation. Fitz should fly to Sweden after the season and sit in a room with Bratt’s agent if necessary.

People are being too hard on Timo.

Dude was an animal for the first 30 mins then Ruff switched the lines and it got discombobulated.

The shorthanded goal was more on DOUGLAS IMO, not a great pass which put his teammates in a bad spot. Then the high stick penalty is what it is.
I think it's fine. Timo was definitely one of the reasons they lost. I don't think anyone is saying he'll be bad long term.

I'm more frustrated that we acquire the guy to put him on his off wing and in a different role on the PP. Now we're line juggling him after 4 periods with a new team.

Swap Palat from third line to first and drop Bratt to line 3. Both lines will be improved and Jack Hughes will find his extra gear again.

There’s not a lot of hockey deals made when teams are in this position.

If we don’t sign Bratt due to his ask, it’s unlikely Ottawa would pony up the bag, part of their issue with DeBrincat is they have a bunch of players to pay too.

The Sens have

Now
Brady T. 8.2m
Chabot 8m
Norris 7.95m
Batherson 4.95m
Giroux 6.5m (2 more seasons)
Chychrun 4.5m (2 more seasons than raise?)

Starting 23-24
Stützle 8.35m
Zub 4.6m (+2.1m raise)

ELC
Pinto (ends after this season)
Sanderson (ends after 2023-24)

Deadcap space 3.5m next season, then drops to under a 1m. (In fact, they amusingly* they get +625k more cap space in 2024-25 before going back to negative -875k because of how Colin White’s contract buyout worked.)

It looks like they too have an internal cap they might be trying to sell DeBrincat.

The team that makes the most sense for Bratt is Detroit and there isn’t a great trade for us in the short term. But that’s how Bratt trade would mostly realistically go. Not good in the short term, at least the trade itself. The assets could be used for another player obviously.

*It’s amusing you enjoy cap space-based humor, I realize there might be a limited audience with that.

If you move Bratt, it's gonna be for picks and then flipping said picks for other players.

Best take of the day is the guy that blamed dougie for the SH goal. Unreal
More than one poster said it was a bad play by him, including me. Timo was the last to have the puck and should have gotten rid of it earlier, but it was a risky play by Dougie and he didn’t execute on the pass. It was a bad play by many players.

0.7 PPG winger who plays a soft game on the ice is hard-balling the Devils again. I don't buy the "awww it's not himmmmm it's his agenttttt" nonsense. He is his agent's boss. If he wanted a deal to get done, it would've been done.

If he hasn't agreed to a new contract by the draft, you have to move on from this guy. He's simply not good enough to be paid more than 8.5 per season, and by all accounts it seems like that's what he's holding out for.

I was also thinking about guys who aren't as productive as Bratt, but locked up multiple years at lower cap hit that may still blow up (think Alex Tuch), but I really couldn't find anyone that met that criteria that would also want Bratt back.

Frankly, they may have to do the Kevin Fiala type trade and then flip those assets for someone else.

Maybe it’s a little bit of copium, but honestly better for Timo to get this stuff out of his game now while he’s still learning the system. Guy is an absolute beast and too good of a player to let a crap game affect him.

0.96 PPG last year, 0.92 PPG this year so far. Do you consider Jack a 0.8 PPG player? Regardless of how he started his career, Jack is most definitely a PPG+ guy. Just seems disingenuous to use career PPG with Bratt, you’re most likely getting 0.9-1 PPG from him going forward.

I agree the situation is annoying as f*** though. I’m confident it’ll get resolved, but you’re right, it’s starting to be hard to give him the benefit of the doubt in regards to negotiations.

What annoys me is the way Bratt's agent is essentially not negotiating. I realize Fitz has a reason to put out a narrative that they made an offer and Bratt's camp is sitting on it, but still. It takes two to make a deal, and if one is basically not responding, what can you do?

I assume they will get around to making a serious counter-offer at some point, but this has gone on frustratingly long.

Bratt is saying the right things, but his agent is doing the opposite.

Yeah you wouldn’t have these long periods of radio silence if there was actual give and take and Bratt’s agent looks to be using the Gillies Lupien playbook of take it or leave it, no negotiations

“Plays a soft game”. You guys are just straight up obsessed with this one aspect of the game that is less and less important as the years go by.

Speaking of Bratt

6 pts last 12 gms

Listen, hes a great player, but we are seeing a historic season of scoring. He is quickly dropping under a PPG pace on the season so he shouldn’t be asking for a lot of $$. Fitz will just laugh at the agent. Larkin has similar points and is a center. So Bratt should be getting less than 8.7 per.

8 x 8, do it Lou.

Since his ridiculous start in October he's at a 65 point pace over the last 54 games.

Bratt's agent isn't juiced in to all the insiders like a Brisson or Barry. I don't think we'd have any idea of a counter offer unless for some reason he started talking to those guys, but there's no evidence that he does talk to them. I would see no reason for the Devils to leak a counter offer.
