Mediocre coaching with a shit system and no real accountability for executing the little important things.
Fragile goaltenders.
Embarrassingly soft and bullied on an almost nightly basis; no edge or willingness to be pests whatsoever.

Those are the top three things that need to be addressed and that would help mitigate the inexperience on the back end.

Get rid of Ruff and that third point becomes less of an issue.

I've been banging this drum since they hired Ruff, he coaches not to engage. It's not what he wants his players to do.

I'm not saying they'd become the broadstreet bullies, and sure every team could use more jam, but Ruff actively teaches these guys to keep their cool and trust his loony ass system to win them games.

Yea, this team has plenty of talent, there are teams out there with way less firepower than us playing much more structured and productive hockey. I really want to see this team with a new coach to finish out the year, not for playoffs sake, but to see what the problem areas actually are.

Devils are the kings of skating half the rink to then stand near the puck carrier and not engage them. It’s bizarre.

We had a taste of these guys getting to be unfettered last playoffs.

Ruff had completely lost control and sheer will got them past the Rangers. Nobody was "soft" then.

I have a pitch for a new reality show on the NHL Network.

Starts with a bio of a goalie...a little talk about his day to day, his diet and workout routine and then in the last 10 minutes of the show the goalie goes into an interrogation room, he's hooked up to a lie detector and shown video of NHL defensemen from other teams and asked who would you rather play behind A. Or B. After a series of other defensemen it would switch to his own team...A or B until only one is left on his own team.

I think it would be an awesome show.

I mean f*** me, Bastian got blown up twice and you would think his team mates hated him or something. Nothing, not even a slight response.

You cannot convince me that a bunch of 20-25 year olds, full of TEST, would do absolutely nothing about their mate getting they ass handed to them.

It's Ruff.

I’m not saying this means anything for Markstrom specifically, but Bizz making a mockery over people making a big deal out of Markstrom being 34 on TNT last week is pretty stupid.

34 is a young man, but it’s a pretty old player in pro sports.

Almost all of the elite goalies of the last generation didn’t play a game older than 34. Some didn’t even make it to 34.

Price - last NHL game played at 34

Rask - last NHL game played at 34

Holtby - last NHL game played at 32

Bishop - last NHL game played at 33

Schneider - one NHL game played after age 33

Crawford - last NHL game played at 35

These guys are way closer to what normally happens than guys like Brodeur, Roy, Hasek, Lundqvist and Luongo still being elite goalies at 35 years old.

Quick had one rando good season after age 32, until he and Benoit Allaire completely overhauled his game at age 37 to buy him more time.

Fleury won his only Vezina at 36, but it was in a shortened season. Fleury is still playing at 39, but hasn’t been a particularly good goalie since he was about 34, save for one random shortened season.

Rinne won his only Vezina at 35, but also had a valley of some less than useful years in his early 30s before a late career renaissance.

It's Ruff.
Ruff made the team weak and flaccid or Ruff made the team hate Bastian? I'm confused here?

None of them hate Nate, but you'd think they did if you were a casual observer during that Ranger game.

Not even an attempt to punish a Ranger in response. I'm not talking Rempe levels of dumbassery, but make someone pay.

Nothing. It's not Ruff's way and he doesn't get them to play that way. Meier is a totally different player to what he was in SJ.

These are young guys, at their athletic peaks that should get more angry and dumb. They just... don't.

They need a new voice. You said it, they are flaccid.

Long story short, I don't believe for one second they are actually this "soft". Rather, it's preferred.

Maybe they are all buddhists and I'm totally wrong. I just doubt it.

100% agree.

The team quit on Ruff. There is zero chance this team doesnt respond in any way otherwise when that happened. The team has just given up

Not sure how you blame the coach?

It would appear to me that our team is a soft punk ass team top to bottom.

I'm going with Occam's razor theory.

i don’t think they quit on ruff. i think they like him and want to win a cup for him. i just don’t think he has the answers and the fact that they keep trying and failing is discouraging

You think every single one of the 23 skaters on this one team are all soft to this degree? What are the odds?

Much like how every f***ing goaltender we’ve had for the last three years has eventually completely shitted himself….I think there’s more going on here.

Yes I do. When Bastian and Lazar are the best physical players you got the team is candy ass soft.

Its Bizz. He isnt informed or smart person. He should live on a hockey island without internet, at least he would be hockey king there.

And that Ranger dolt didn't go after some random skilled player or 3rd liner... He went after our toughest.

That was a message we had no answer for.

Firstly, f*** that moron.

On Markstrom, maybe they like the certainty of his contract?

He sucks or falls apart, you can get rid of it.

Sign Saros to a mega contract and he falls apart? Not so easy.

Rempe averages less than 4 minutes a game and played 13 seconds vs us. He plays against 4th lines and he hit a guy on the 4th line. He didn’t target anyone, it was a high hit because he’s 7 feet tall.

He also got thrown out so I’m not sure how our players were supposed to have “answered” that. (Scoring on the PP would have been nice, but alas…)

Even those two barely do anything from a bullying/physicality standpoint.

We have guys with potential to be pests and be physical in addition to those two. Timo. Haula. Palat.

Don’t you think it’s kind of odd that the leader of the softest team in the league never seems to bring that aspect of the game up? He seems quite content with it as it stands.
