Timo Meier might help our winger depth.

Anyway, I don’t believe the Horvat stuff. I think most of the shit that comes out of Vancouver is just made up nonsense.

Horvat rumour is because Ruff is just begging and pleading for Fitz to trade for him so he can keep Haula on Hughes’ wing and have Horvat as the 3C.

I don't think we can afford both Meier and Horvat. We're super thin. A couple of injuries and we fell off the rails a bit. We don't have guys that can plug in - obviously. Even on this heater, we're being carried by 4 players.

I just remember the Islanders going all in too soon and trading away the future and missing the mark back 20 years ago. Meier is an awesome piece, no doubt. He will cost roster players and futures, and we don't have a lot of roster players or futures at forward.

Just my two cents. I'd prefer to trade next year's 1st.

if Meier doesnt want to sign here, then the trade won't be made. No one is trading for him without an extension.

Hell no. Look at what happened with Florida trading a future first rounder. They might have handed over a lottery ticket for Bedard.

of course we can't afford both. I don't think anyone suggested that though to be fair.

I can’t see any of the worthwhile guys being available and no one really as good as Meier IMO. Geuntzel Necas are the two that are worth while and no way in hell either would be available.

I want a young(ish) winger for Jack (or Nico and Bratt goes to Jacks wing) .
Meier is almost exactly the player I think would fit as close to perfect as possible
I agree that I find it hard to believe that teams wouldn't want those guys back, but I don't know the cap situations of each. Esp Carolina. I wouldn't have thought they'd give up on Dougie but he went UFA. And I doubt any would be available until the off-season if at all.

Pittsburgh would have to declare the Crosby Malkin era over.

I agree Meier seems like a perfect fit

I'm in a brewery right now in Readington NJ and they have Czech Pilsner named Jagr Lager named after Jaromir... I've been drinking beers since noon talking hockey here.

Lol I love how the Leafs homer headlines it "Timo Meier to Toronto?" as if that was the real gist of the interview with Friedman.

I. mean he’s the host of a Leafs show. He’s trying to get people to click

horvat to nj makes no sense. if we had a legitimate chance at a cup then sure let’s load up, but i think we’re still a year or two away from that. i’m fine with getting an extended meier (without giving up mercer, hopefully).

Honestly the only way I don’t see the devils getting timo is if he refuses to sign an extension. They have the assets to do this and the window is cracking open. He’s basically the Taylor hall trade at the perfect time

If the conversations are anything like here, I assume you have had a rotating chair all day ;)

man come on.

Whomever we pick this summer (at the end of the first, remember) likely wont become a major contributor for another ~3 years. Why are we wasting 3 years of this corps if that player isnt going to help immediately? Why not get a guy like Meier who can help compete NOW?

No one is suggesting trading the pick for a rental.

Yup, Nico and Bratt are 24. Our current 2023 prospect is 18. He could become a contributor, but we'd wasting prime years of the current group. And this draft may be deep, but as of right now we'd be picking 28th. We're not landing another prospect anywhere near the level of L. Hughes or Nemec any time soon.

It's a no brainer to use the 2023 1st for immediate help if we can - i.e. Timo (or even Horvat as a plan B, if the price is right) extended and then anticipate trading future picks for rentals.

If we miss out on Timo, then I'd rather save the ammo. I'm fine with Rico or a viable 3C/middle six guy if he comes at the price of a 2nd or something like that.

We should be trying for the cup but zero reason for a sub-optimal add. And the team has kept it close with CAR, BOS and TOR in most of those games - you wonder how they'd do over the course of a whole series. Who says you can't tire out a slower, older squad...

MacKinnon won his cup at 26, Crosby won a cup early but then didn’t win another one until he was 28 and 29. Ovi won his cup at 32. McDavid and Matthews were drafted before Hischier and haven’t won shit yet.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t trade for Meier, but it’s not like this urgent trade for a once in a lifetime player. I’m getting more wary of an overpay.
