I f***ing hate alternate jerseys but if there are going to do it...

If they take this jersey and plop our existing logo on the front that won't be so bad....The Red NJ crest would look good against this jersey.

I hope they don't alter the crest. The "Jersey" prison uniforms were bad enough, don't take the final step toward clowntown and mess with the logo. Can we keep the last ounce of dignity we have remaining....Please!

Agreed.

There is no reason to make the Devils logo blue when red is part of this jersey. Either put the Devils logo (with the black) on this jersey or change the black outline to blue or yellow.

I said this earlier, but if they use a modified logo I think that would be awesome. Add the old drawing of the jersey devil from the newspaper in place of the horse/scout and change the KC to an NJ.

I’d probably prefer using Devils colors too, but I’d love to see them tweak the logo

That would also be much better - having a modified "Devil" logo similar to the horse in the Scouts logo and changing the KC to NJ would look awesome.

Or Keep the scout and where the KC is replace it with our NJ logo? That way you pay respect to Kansas City without altering our logo? That would be my pitch to the team.

I mean change the scout to something similar to this or one of the other classic Jersey Devil iterations:

Keep a similar font for the KC but change it to NJ.

Not sure if I’d want to change the colors too but I think an altered version of the Scouts logo but with an homage to the Jersey Devil lore would be neat.

Or maybe keep both... "KC" to the top left of the crest and "NJ" where the "KC" currently is... A bit symbolic that the KC would be behind the Scout and NJ in front.

Anyway....I thought we don't do indigenous people on sports uniforms anymore?

Could the Devils assign Bernier to Utica and if so, is there a benefit in doing so?

If that move were made, I believe NJ would only receive $1.125M in cap relief from his $4.125M contract. Let's say that Zetterlund gets $900K on his next contract - that would give the Devils $225K in extra cap space between those moves. Add that to the existing $73,375 in cap space plus $160,833 by swapping out Nemec for Okhotiuk (or $155,000 if Bahl were to make the roster instead, but for now let's go with Okhotiuk).

This would give the Devils $459,208 in cap space with a 22 man roster. Still wouldn't open up a spot for Holtz or any other forward, but it would at least allow the Devils to start banking cap space. I'm just not sure how long it would take before what is being banked got up to the point that they could recall a 23rd player - probably a little less than half the season?

Conversely, if the roster stays as is (and again, let's just assume $900K for Zetterlund) and the Devils plan is to LTIR Bernier for the season, they would want to try to get the final roster value as high as possible to maximize the cap space opened up by LTIR'ing Bernier, right? This would include keeping Nemec on the roster (for final roster purposes) and swapping out Mercer's $874,125 cap hit for Halonen's or Walsh's $925,000 cap hit (since Mercer is the only waiver exempt player), which would put the Devils $874,458 over the cap (albeit with a 23-man roster), which is all the relief they'd gain from putting Bernier on LTIR, right? Swapping Mercer back in and Okhotiuk for Nemec would give the team just $211,708 of wiggle room below the team's new upper limit. Or would Bernier need to be part of that final 23 man roster before being put on LTIR?

Assuming my math and understanding of LTIR is correct here, what would be the downsides of the latter situation? Seems the Devils would not be able to be buyers at the deadline as they can't really add any additional salary. Also seems they run the risk of having ELC bonuses carry over into next season, though potential Graves or Severson trades later in the season would alleviate that.

Just trying to get a better grasp of the options available as the team is currently constructed.

There is no timetable for Bernier's return, which suggests that his return is not imminent. I do not believe the Devils will try to LTIR cap themselves out, that leaves them vulnerable to bonus overages. The most likely outcome is them waiving Johnsson and someone taking him, or them trading him to a team that was not anticipated. Sending Johnsson to the minors also takes care of their cap issues for the time being, but I really do not think that will happen.

As much as I love the idea of the Jersey Devil drawing version, it’s a gloriously goofy but fun one, it’s also not happening.

Adidas isn’t going to make a weird obscure drawing as the main part of a newly designed logo as a homage to another obscure logo.

Also, just because the mock-ups are fun doesn’t mean it would work at all as a jersey in real life. The best logos are simple and clean for a reason.

If you look at old photos of the Scouts playing you can sort of make out logo because everyone knows what horse & rider look like. (The horse dominates it while the goofy rubber arm and giant feather identify the rider.)

The replacement Jersey Devil drawing would make way less sense visually in actual use.

Plus the team initials randomly stuck bottom corner was always the “Graphic Design is my passion” cherry on top of this awful logo.

Our logo is actually good, as opposed the KC smooshed monstrosity, but the placement still sucks.

Putting our logo on the white version of this is, if anything, very boring. I have no idea how anyone can be outraged. Well, I have some idea, but still come on, this is just some different colors. And these are a limited run jersey too (which is a bummer because I liked the first the RR.)

They weren’t going to use the old logo either. Sports teams are retiring logos with Native American imagery, not reviving them.

And no, I don’t want to start any debate about that particular logo or any other logo. You know who also wouldn’t want to start a debate about that logo? Adidas and the NJ Devils.

The fact is the Reverse Retros work well with the NHL teams that have bunch of different jerseys in their past that haven’t been recreated lately. That’s not every team. C'est la vie.

I'm not really seeing us as much improved. Again, we're just really hoping goaltending can only improve.

Contract aside, Palat is definitely a nice upgrade this year. Marino seems risky...could be a steal, but right now his play has declined since his rookie year.

The best upgrades this year felt like they were staff improvements, but Ruff still remains...

Ruff has one foot out the door already. After this season, it's Brunette's time to shine.

almost none of this is true tbh.

Vanecek >>> the turds we were throwing out there last year. Even if he is simply league average (.908 or so) that is a huge upgrade.

Marino is a top 4 defensive DMan, no questions asked. His "play declining" is really overstated

We didn't lose anything of value since last year and added a 2nd line wing, 2nd pairing DMan, and league average goalie

This would actually sell like hotcakes
Wow that's sexy. I would open up my wallet right now if that was the real jersey. Thankfully for my wallet & unfortunately for NJ, they just keep coming up with awful designs to prevent me from spending money. Whenever I think a design can't get worse they go "hold my beer". All my life I wanted a black Jersey but when they came out with the Jersey Jerseys I wanted nothing to do with it. Unbelievable how fans could make beautiful alternate jerseys yet the people being paid millions to design real jerseys end up coming up with clown suits.

No, we're not. The Devils upgraded at LW (Palat > Zacha), upgraded at LD (whoever > Smith), upgraded at RD (Marino > Subban), plus Haula is an upgrade. In addition to that, the Devils only got 46 games out of Jack Hughes and Dougie Hamilton was hobbled all year. Also almost everybody on the team is young enough that there's room for improvement in their game.

The best upgrades this year felt like they were staff improvements, but Ruff still remains...

We'll see what changes are made to the systems in place. I don't know whose idea it is to give up the blueline so easy, but I'm hoping that goes away - I can't imagine somebody who works for DeBoer would do that, but that would rule out both McGill and Nasreddine, so...
