I disagree, you have 7+ years to figure out some chemistry with a full training camp this year. How many practices do you think Meier even had with the Devils? 7?

It's not about chemistry, it's about playstyle. Meier and Hughes both like to shoot the puck too much. I'm sure they will end up together plenty this year, but I just think it's suboptimal to have them together and don't think things will start that way.

Isn't/wasn't Sportsnet working with this guy? Makes sense, Shannon puts out arguably better videos in terms of information but Shannon isn't exactly captain charisma.

Although his dig at the Canucks during the power rankings video was pretty good. Something along the lines of

'if the Devils winning a Stanley cup this year seems fast, it does happen, which goes over really well for fans of teams that have been swimming in mediocrity for the past couple decades. Not that I could name one off the top of my head'

> points at Canucks logo on the board

'There it is'
No, he’s never worked for or been on Sportsnet. He’s a self made YouTuber, and has been doing it for about 7 years now and quit his job to do it in 2018 (I think?) full time.

And his digs at the Canucks are merely because he’s a Canucks fan and has been disappointed by them for a lifetime. They’re his favorite team (he’s from the Vancouver area) along with the Bruins and Stars.

Meier is probably better with Nico for that reason. Nico could really benefit from a shooter on his line.

The other option, for me, is to form a 3rd line with Timo and a playmaker like Bratt. I figure Jack can make a great line with just about anyone. Actually, he could, strangely, benefit from a grinder who can win board battles and retrieve pucks. Nico should be paired with a shooter like Tofolli.

Having 3 lines driven by Jack, Nico/Tofolli, and Bratt/Meier would be hard to stop.

BUF finishing below DET and OTT would be funny
I think he’s a little too high on Detroit, but I saw the Jfresh season standings predictions the other day and he has Detroit in the playoffs over Tampa, which is the only change of playoff spots in the East from last year that he has. Detroit does have potential to be that one team that really overachieves and makes the playoffs, while everyone declares the Yzerplan to be working and finished, but falls fall on their face and finishes with 80-something the next season.

I think his only change in the West is Calgary in and LA out (I’m not sure if they can sustain the playoffs two years in a row with that cast of bad goalies), but him having Winnipeg winning the Central was very interesting.

When he did this last offseason he had us just missing the playoffs with 93 points, but his most interesting one was Washington winning the Metro last year. Not sure why anyone was so high on them or thought they’d be more than a bubble team, other than recency bias because it had been close to 10 years since they missed the playoffs.

Most of his point projections are very low though. He still has us finishing second in the Metro by just a point to Carolina, but both teams finishing with roughly 10 fewer points than last year. And he also has the presidents trophy winner with only 109-110 points. I think he did the same thing last year.

Do we need ANOTHER depth defenseman? FFS.
Dumba is far from a depth defender. I’d put him at a good #4 whose shown the ability to be even a low-end #2.

I think if the Devils had known he would be a free agent until now (and presumably willing to take a cheap deal) they would’ve signed him rather than trading for Miller.

To sign Dumba with Miller on the roster and Nemec waiting in the wings seems like too much

If Colin Miller gets injured we play Brendan Smith.

Yes, yes we do.
Brendan Smith can sit in the press box and step in and hold his own. He is not a death sentence if he needs to play. Signing someone like Dumba for "depth" is a bad move. I don't know a lot about Miller but I thought it was going to be between him and Nemac jockeying for 3rd RD if not leaning towards Miller. Signing Dumba would make Miller press box filler 1st, possibly playing if someone is hurt and Nemac doesn't look good 2nd, which I don't think the plan was.

Does this site just not work on non-mobile anymore?

This is what happens the last couple days when I try to use this forum on my desktop computer

It sucks. It’s hard to type a post that’s more than 2-3 sentences on a phone, when I have a full keyboard and can type 50 words a minute on it.

And then the phone draining a couple battery percentages every time I make a post on it.

Fun fact. Lanny Mcdonald is only 34 or 35 years old in this picture.
He’s looked like a wrinkly old prune since the 70’s.

I’ve also heard from multiple people that he’s a dick in relation to most pro hockey players/personalities.

The Flames still love trotting him out there annually to remind everyone of that one time that he won the cup. He’s probably (I’m assuming) employed by them in some sort of role.

Oddly enough I can't stand it on my phone and only enjoy using it on the desktop.

This has been happening to me for months. It works fine incognito though. I'm sure there's a fix for it but during the offseason I don't mind as much

Will the Devils stay pat with present Goaltenders or still make a trade? I hope so, stand pat. Let's see what we can get from our present goalies, Vitek & Schmid. Our defense is reasonable and can help defend the goal. Schmid will have an entire season of NHL game experience. If managed properly the two goalies Schmid and Vitek should share the regular season load equally. That means neither will be too tired going into the playoffs like last seasons' screw up. I see the Devils getting to the Championship round, I am not saying they will win this round, experience, but I think we will be playing in this round. Just maybe we will be in the Cup round, I certainly hope so. We will have Cap money, not much to make last minute trades if necessary. We have enough young players to trade as well. Fitz has gotten the Devils where they want and should be there with one exception in my mind, and that is coaching. Our present coaches are enough for the regular season, even the first round, but in my opinion they break down in the 2nd and third rounds and certainly in the Cup round. Just not enough equality of good coaching for the later playoff rounds. Of course I certainly hope I am wrong about thid coaching in the playoff rounds.

Go Devils, have a great season and terrific playoff games. Bring the Cup to NJ again. Fitz, the GM of the Year. Don't fuvk this up Lindy Rupp, Travis Green was a mistake. Tom was doing a favor for Travis, happens all the time in sports. Look what it did to the NE Patriots last season, Belichick boosted the responsibilities of his buddies Patricia and Judge and that move and them hurt his reputation in the NFL and his relationship with the Patriots' owner Bob Kraft and his son Jonathan. Hopefully, that doesn't happen with the NJ Devils but the makings are there, IMO.

Let's Go Devils
