Making the playoffs is the best thing for the franchise long term , moving forward. I don't care what the coaching implications are. This team needs to be in the playoffs and not picking in the lottery.

Said it before, the narrative last year was that the experience of Carolina was too much for NJ. You don't get playoff experience without being in the playoffs.
That's a fair point but not making them can be just as good ...providing we don't trade away a lot to get in and we fall short....It will create more hunger and make these young players realize nothing is guaranteed....Last year a lot of it came easy this year nothing has been easy but they have shown fight just not on a consistent basis.....The opposite sell and missing while adding assets that we can select a good prospect or deal for a goalie while keeping more of the assets we know could pay off....

This team didn't deserve presents.we can blame Ruff, system, Green etc but it were players who lost at home to Anaheim, SJ, Arizona, Washington, Columbus etc. They could won half and be in the play off spot. They lost against bad backup Johansson, tampa were after back to back too. They can't score against bad goalie, who was starter of back to back team we are trying to overproduce. Its okay to trade Toffoli and send the message to them. This team should be shaken.
The player I like from this season is Nemec. So if I would be Fitz I would promote him and prefer to stay what we have on the right side, may sign Miller for another minimum deal if he is okay with it. I would sign solid left defenseman to make a massage to Bahl, Siegenthaler and Luke.
Toffoli is scoring well, but we should give an opportunity to some other team to sign him for Killorn deal. When Toffoli will drop to 20 goals he will start to be useless. Even with his goals our pp isn't good, we are losing endings of the games. I prefer Tataresque ver 2022/23 player with 15-20 goals.
May be Noesen, I would like to sign him for a two years deal. And Henrique. We need more depth on the center position. If Bardakov will travel, we can add Henrique, Noesen and Bardakov in the same off-season and I think its a right way to change this team - more grit and speed for different levels.
Henrique with his ~15 goals, Noesen with his 10-15 goals, more developed Holtz and healthy Timo on the right wing can replace what did Toffoli and Mcleod brings and add more needed aspects of the game.

I love Bardakov. It is kind of irritating that we had Noesen and he's really become a player for Carolina.

As for coaching, everyone seems to be coalescing around Woodcroft, Boudreau, Gronborg, or Sullivan (if Pens let him go). Not sure who is best for the roster but I do like the idea that some of these guys have both a rush system AND a cycle system and some even are known to be good for developing young players.

There’s rumor that we’re negotiating with Toffoli and that other teams are interested in him.

I’m hoping we won’t keep if he isn’t signed by March 8th and that might be what’s happening here.

Either pressure him into the deal you want or ship him out for assets.

Still its questionable, will Bardakov prefer to try himself in NA or not, he is bottom line player with bottom line potential. So for him its questionable how he sees the situation and perspectives for himself. Will see.

I like all of this coaches, but I have prejudice against Woodcroft.

Why do you dislike Woodcroft?

I agree on Bardakov. Would Sergei Brylin be a help to recruit him over? We need that speed and grit and tenacity on the bottom six. He'd be a replacement for [name redacted].

Its not dislike, its prejudice. I saw limited games of Edmonton, they were not consistent on my taste. I can be wrong easily. At least Im not a big fan how oilers were built from gm work perspective. Small sample size anyway.
Henrique should replace Mcleod. Bardakov(in best case scenario) should add speed, grit, forecheck, PK and defensive game overall. He is desperately heroic and tries to help his team to the very end, I think this element of the game would be useful to us, even if it costs Zakhar a lot of missed matches .But first he needs to decide to move, and then strengthen his position in the squad. At the moment, if Toffoli will sign new deal with the Devils and Holtz is not traded, there are not many available roster spots in our squad. Its a question how he sees potential AHL assignment. May be Devils should offer two way deal with solid AHL salary. And I hope Misyul had good experience in Utica, because I believe Zakhar will ask him in this case.

Definitely annoying…but he wasn’t even an everyday NHLer for four years after the Devils moved on from him. Not like they gave up too early. It is what it is. He seems to always play well against the Devils too.

I still wonder about a guy like Berube. He's another one that I'm uncertain about how good of a coach he really is structurally, but he'd clearly be more of a hard ass than Lindy is capable of being.

I’m personally not a fan. I think he’s more of a “right place at the right time” guy with St. Louis than an actively good coach and culture changer. Although, he would certainly rock the boat here if he came in.

Oh I think there are spots now even if Toffoli and Holtz are both here next year. Nosek is not working out as that 4th line center. We have Lazar playing on the second line. Bastian has struggled this year. Bardakov absolutely has a legitimate shot as a specialist in the bottom six as you point out if he were to come here. I'd be totally okay giving him a higher AHL salary like we did with Tyce Thompson to entice him too.

Considering that LA is a rumored option, there’s a couple interesting guys there.

He’s had a really rough stretch by Kaliyev is an interesting option as a buy low candidate. Guy with size that can shoot the puck. Kinda similar to Zetterlund in all honesty.

I would love to add Turcotte too. He’s been injury prone, but I’d be willing to take the risk he’d be an energy line replacement for McLeod.

Except Zetterlund could skate fast. Kaliyev can’t.

What term would be acceptable?

2 years? 3 years?

To be fair here, it took Noesen a long time to get back to the show. After we let him go in 2019, he spent the next 2 seasons in 3 different organizations (Pitt, San Jose and Toronto) before winding up in Carolina's system. He played only 48 NHL games in the next 3 years between those 4 clubs combined, but he had a ridiculous year in the AHL for Carolina's farm team in 21-22, putting up 48 goals and 85 points.

He worked his way back from what appeared to be the end of his career, and he deserves all the credit in the world. I'll always remember that Game 3 goal against Tampa fondly.

There really shouldn't be any scenario where a pending UFA Toffoli is still on this team after the TDL.

I'm personally hoping he gets dealt regardless of what happens between now and next week, but if Fitz holds onto him he absolutely has to get an extension worked out before the TDL.

We're not at a stage where we can risk Toffoli walking for nothing at the end of a season where we may not even make the playoffs.

Those would be on the acceptable side.

I just don’t want get past the TDL with an unsigned Toffoli.
Toffoli should be signed or traded. We are not in situation as we were with Severson, when we tried to compete for SC. I believe even with playoff appearance we will be eaten be the wolves.
And there are a lot of roster problems Fitz should fix. Or prospect pipeline problems.

My preference is Berube. The team needs to make the switch to "hard ass coach that holds them accountable".

Berube also showed himself very interesting and malleable tactically. They had excellent underlying metrics and defensive numbers during their Cup run. But as the team personnel changed, he allowed their offensive system to change to more of a rush-oriented offense. I think he can improve the OZP possession and forecheck offense of the team, while still leveraging the talent they have on the rush.
