It's why I would have given Daws the Caps game off, but whatever. They seem deathly afraid of giving Akira another start and throwing Poulter to the wolves tonight would have just been mean.

That would require logic and having a brain but Lindy doesn't operate with either so. And yeah Daws was the correct start, it is what it is. The first goal was abysmal but would've been nice to have a lead for the kid after a 5 min PP

I have a pretty good feeling about Lindy being gone tomorrow.
I have a really good feeling he’s gone, it’s just gonna be after this season.

Things have the potential to get really ugly if we lose to Montreal Saturday. I can’t see the horn sounding without the loudest boos we’ve heard all year.

Maybe even the chant again. Maybe not if it’s an OT loss though.

It would've came to a head tonight but the building with 45-50% Rags fans wouldn't help a fire Lindy or them being booed off the ice. They play like this on Saturday v MTL during a matinee? Jesus better have mercy on Lindy

Devilsdoggo must be doing cartwheels right about now....
Who gives a f*** about Devils doggo? It's not about 1v1 at this point as have that victory from last playoffs. The point now is us vs 16 to actually make the playoffs. We're way behind and now is the time for Fitz to show true leadership. But will he appear?

Nico is no babe in the woods. He knew what he was saying without saying it.

It was easy to say some rote like, “I don’t make that call but Ruff has been a good coach” and he chose not to say that.

Nico was giving a thumbs down. I think it’s plainly obvious.
Especially in comparison to Jack’s comments, but we know which franchise center they actually cater to if that’s the case

Honestly, I get sick of people bringing up the Nico press conference from '22. He attempted to not answer the question because it isn't his assessment or responsibility to make. The guy busts his ass every single game and had 1 5 game playoff series his rookie year to show for it. Of course he's going to be pissed off having another exit interview with nothing to show for it. The results of that year spoke for themselves.

For the record, this was him last year. Of course all sunshine and rainbows after the year that he had, but he spoke of him positively. I'm sure no one will put any stock into it though lol.

It's impossible to not feel completely discouraged with the way this season has gone given we're barely out of the playoff picture amidst a massive number of hurdles, some self-inflicted such as coaching, lineup management, goaltending decisions etc. and some unavoidable like every key player missing time at some point or another.

I give Lindy more rope than most do, but things are certainly trending in the wrong direction and there doesn't seem to be a specific reason as to why. If you come out and lay the two eggs that you do after such a memorable experience last weekend, that speaks volumes to me about the staff getting this team ready to play. There has been virtually no change to the PP units who have gone cold for two months. The players continue to pass up chances to shoot and look for the perfect play. Players are avoiding contact (maybe this is health related for some), playing timid defensively. It's all a very bad recipe.

I don't know what else to say. It's disheartening.

I know it is the narrative to blame Jack for Lindy being back, but our 3 best forwards all wanted him back.

At the end of last season, Devils captain Nico Hischier was asked a direct question about coach Lindy Ruff.

“Would you like to see Lindy Ruff and his staff back next season?”

Hischier’s response was: “I’m not going to comment on that,” which sparked plenty of speculation from pundits and Devils fans about his relationship with the coaching staff. On Sunday, Hischier clarified his “no comment” stance, stating that it was a language-barrier miscommunication.

“‘No comment’ is not what I meant,” Hischier told NJ Advance Media after the Devils’ training camp scrimmage Sunday. “It meant that it was not up to me. I have a great opinion about Lindy. I’m doing really well with Lindy, I can’t complain. He’s been very fair to us. It was a tough past two years with COVID and injuries, but that’s in the past. I have a great relationship with him, I’m glad he’s here.”

There's no sense in blaming any individual player for wanting Lindy back after 2022. I think it's easy revisionist history to act like there was much of a decision to make. The revolving nightmare of goaltending that year was comical compared to this season.

This season, it's unfortunately been a mix of things. The hope was Vitek would bounce back and he cratered. The hope was Schmid would build off of his playoff run, and he couldn’t. They were forced to throw Daws back into the mix probably faster than they wanted to. They pivoted to the young defensemen, and the group as a whole has struggled. Every player has seemingly regressed to some extent this season. The staff and management have to share the weight of this.

Nico had an amazing night vs the Flyers than went out and didn't do shit the following 2 games.

He's a low end top line center. That 1-2 punch down the middle isn't looking as strong as it was last year with him and Jack. They are both supposed to be our leaders when it comes to offense , as well as Bratt and Meier. Look what happens when the games get harder and they all fade out. It's just flat out not good enough. This team has no real leadership. Games like this make it seem like our "core" players might not really stack up compared to the rest of the league as good as we hoped.

Nico has 23 points over the last 23 games, so if you are looking for people to blame and point at him....yeah, I Don't have much to say to you to be honest.

"Our goaltending sucks and we have no future without a solution, but we shouldn't be targeting two of the best goalies in the NHL."
Not at all costs....Fitz makes a trade now it's a lifeline to Ruff and if it fails he probably will feel he did what he could and fire him....We should keep the assets sell at the deadline fire Ruff then go get the goalie in the offseason....Doing it now is shortsighted the coach needs to go team was lifeless last night

Meier and Palat contracts are killing us. Getting 1/2 the production we should out of those 2. And the Hamilton injury destroyed us. He is sorely sorely missed back there.

It’s just Nico being respectful and not answering questions that he has no power over.

Everyone continuously using this quote to imply some other meaning that he wanted Lindy fired is being disrespectful to the kid.

take that quote and take every postgame when he talks about the system/coaching/etc

its pretty obvious that he does not like the coach.

i didn't watch it but saw the shot stats

we need a f***ing goalie YESTERDAY
Dude Shesty barely got off the couch ....We set up at least 2 or three of those goals for them...Daws was left out on an island...No goalie would have won us the game...

You have every right to your opinion but Nico is not a low level number one center...He plays the whole sheet and creates and produces offense....Him and Bratt were at least visible last night more then they can say about the rest of the team....

yeah its crazy but hamilton is a massive hole.

jack not being 100% isn't helping but it seems it will be a miracle to have him be healthy a full season so i wouldn't count on anything next year being different.

i dont think they get rid of ruff during the season. when they do eventually move on they absolutely need to bring in a hammer of a coach and not a players coach. torts would be ideal

team just looks mentally beaten down and it all started with the playoffs last year i dont know why is it a mix of goalie/injuries/regression? coach isn't going to be able to fix two of those things.

Better system ..players playing and competing for playing time by a new coach can help all of that except injuries....Daws Has a future here if the team plays better and competes....Fire Ruff next big move by Fitz is the coach he gets it wrong he probably won't survive himself so he probably will add a goalie solution as well.....

Jack and Meier both look like they're about 50% healthy at best. Then you remove Dougie and McLeod, throw in Mercer having a dog shit year, and add in league worst goaltending on top of everything else, and you wind up with what we have.

Just a perfect storm resulting in the worst possible scenario for the Devils this year.

The one thing that was avoidable was running back the same goaltending all over again.
