how about we see if these dudes do literally anything in the NHL before we claim them to be "good moves".....?
So many unfairly maligned good moves.
Also before he made the greatest coach hiring in the history of the NHL in by giving John Tortorella 4 years/ ~4m, he hired Alain Vigneault.
Fletcher signed AV to a 5 year/5m deal on April 15, 2019 and fired him on December 6, 2021 after a 8-10-4 start (and a 8 game losing streak ending with a 0-3 home loss to the Devils lol).
People get fired for pissing away valuable drafting assets and millions of dollars in failed moves, or at least they should.
Bobby Brink was drafted with our 2019 #34 pick, they traded up for it, so it amuses me that they pissed away their 2022 2nd (#36), 2023 2nd (#39) and 2024 2nd (#?).
And you can’t act like that’s no loss when you point to both Brink and Emil Andrae (2020 #54) as key young players of the rebuild.
Pronman had the Flyers U23 Pipeline at #11. Elite Prospects had their Prospect Pool at #4 (their cutoff point is Calder eligibility.) Their youth isn’t particularly unsung and that doesn’t make Fletcher’s reign any less messy and underwhelming.
Fletcher was GM from Dec 2018 to March 2023. Picks like Farabee (2018 #17) and York (2019 #14) have worked out, fans who criticize Fletcher aren’t criticizing everything that happened under him. The team needed to move on from bad decisions he made, that typically involves firing the guy.
Michkov is signed in KHL until 2025-26, we know the window they’re shooting for.
Peterson trade/ AHL burial: 3.85m in dead cap space for 1 season after this year.
Hayes’ retained salary: 3.57m in dead cap space for 2 seasons after this year.
Hart will be a 25 year old RFA this summer and Konecny will be 28 year old UFA after 2024-25. So they have big decisions to make with these two.
(I realized too late this probably wasn’t the best thread for this but I already loaded these images lol.)
