Again, the Devils are in the top 3 in the NHL in goal differential (one goal behind TOR for 2nd). Even AFTER this losing streak.

This "I told you so" stuff is complete nonsense. They are still a good team....they just have hit a rough patch. No one realistically thought they were going to be a 120+ point team anyways.

We need the vets in the locker room to calm everyone down and right the ship. It's what we brought them in to do.

Not only was it a rough patch, nearly every other relevant team in the division has taken nearly every point they could in the stretch. And we’re still very much in this thing.

Other than Dr. Evil what vet is going to right the ship though? Tatar? Smith? Haula? None of the vets are really contributing all that much in the scheme of things right now. The team has to play a bit better defensively and the goalies have to play somewhat better. Offensively it isn't likely to be vets leading them. The offense seemingly revolves around Hughes, Hischier, and Bratt for better or worse.

I feel like we are the only team in the league who never gets good goaltending for a full season anymore. This is some weird Marty curse or something. Seems like Vanecek is what everyone tried to tell us, but we didn't listen since we were so high from winning. To really be a top team in the league, you need that elite goaltender, someone like Kochetkov, Sorokin, Ullmark, Oettinger, Hellebuyck... Maybe Schmid, Daws or Brennan could become that, but how long away are they? If Vanacek keeps playing like he has recently and Blackwood will be Blackwood, they probably end up overloading Schmid and ruin his confidence once again.

Getting Bastian and Palat back will help, really didn't think how much we would miss Bastian and I've always been a big Bastian supporter. But in reality if we keep outshooting and beating our opponents in xG and still losing due goalies not being able to save atleast the expected amount, it doesn't matter who our forwards are.

The rest of the team is playing well, really incredibly well for a team in a 6 game losing streak. Sure the powerplay still sucks and there are bunch of mistakes, giveaways, chances and 2-1s given. But with good goaltending we should have won at least some of those games. We just have to hope Vanecek can get back to his early season form soon, and maybe Blackwood can give as few good games here and there. Otherwise we're out of the playoffs and will be the laughing stock of the league, after the run we had and all the shit we talked. The other fanbases are really letting us have it in the main board right now. They don't know nor care if the Devils are playing good, they just see that the Devils lost 6 in a row and think that's a shit team with a shit fanbase.

No one other than Jack is scoring and if they did we would have won several games that we lost during this streak by 1 goal by cashing in on some of our ass ton of early scoring chances.

Two of the goals in 1-4 Dallas loss were EN goals and one goal in the 2-4 Florida game was an EN goal. We lost the Rangers game in OT and the Dallas game 1-2.

Some goals from anyone not named Jack Hughes could have won some of those games. I don’t see how that’s a goaltending problem.

And when we trail early and press for offense we play sloppier defense.

If you score 5 goals in 4 games when the league is averaging 3.16 goals per game you probably won’t win that way.

This is from the season Vasilevskiy won the Vezina. You notice a lot of wins even here but you can see this is a rough patch where he’s giving up a lot of GA.

And all goalies have rough periods where they give up a lot of goals, this isn’t the dead puck era.

Finally, if you’re an adult and you care about what other people say about the sports team you root for online… I can’t help you there. We’ve been absolute trash for years, are way better having won 21 games already, and you’re worried about keeping up appearances on the mainboard?

Life comes at you fast. Deciding teams are completely great or totally terrible early in the season and bragging or dragging can be hazardous. It’s also meaningless?

I didn’t talk any shit and I’m not responsible for the general fanbase does so I will sleep soundly about that. I’m not going to seek out chats with the trolls right now either so they can say anything they want, I won’t see it.

It's a pretty dramatic rough patch but yes, the hysterics are overblown.

Did people really expect this team to post one of the best regular seasons in NHL history? I mean come on.

Palat cannot get back soon enough. They need the steadiness, but they also need Haula to be relegated to the role he was brought in to play.

And on Tatar, I'm ready to move on. I recognize he isn't going anywhere in-season - much like Graves - but he shouldn't be extended. He's been fine and he's a great guy and all, but the top-6 needs more diversity in skillset and Tatar is redundant. That nonsense deke at the top of the crease last night is exactly what this group needs less of.

Their average shots per game are pretty much the same during the winning and losing streaks. Maybe it’s some puck luck or our goalies have come back down to earth, but we still need guys with above average NHL shots and dudes who drive the puck to the net.

The Buffalo Sabres are 16-14-2 and have a +18 goal differential. If the season ended today, BUF would not be in the playoffs. Canucks and Knights both missed the playoffs last year and posted positive goal differentials to end the season. I checked and this was the case with the Rangers in 19-20, Montreal in 18-19, and Dallas in 17-18.

It would be nice if NHL.com had the option to find week-by-week standings for this season but our goal differential number is declining. I think 'peak streak' it was somewhere in the +40s, and today its +27. It let's me know we suck right now, but of course, can turn it around. You just imagine, as the season progresses, that task becomes harder.

No offense but who cares what a small minority of vocal posters say?

I was just saying what the vibe is at the main board, whether you care or not.

I'm glad you guys love Rags, Isles, Leafs, Panthers etc fans gloating, but I certainly don't. I'm also slightly annoyed that the fanbase I'm apart of is now considered one of the most obnoxious. Apparantly the, Devils now got hosed on the Marino trade as well.

I apploud your tough guy I dont care what anyone thinks east coast attitudes. But some of us mentally fragile foreigners are not used to getting shit on. And I actually don't like that what was suppose to be a fun, young exciting hockey team, people are now rooting that they lose and celebrate when they do.

I mean if saying “I will remain skeptical until they actually perform well enough to win on the ice for an extended period of time” is unreasonable…

Well the thing is that’s not the vibe, that’s why i said the majority of the posts are actually reasonable. You seem to be hung up on a small vocal minority. There will always be some amount of people like that, you can’t expect every single person to be singing our praises even when it’s warranted, much less now when there’s an excuse to cast doubt.

I think this is just a rougher rough patch than most of us were expecting. And that's jarring for a team that is led by a veteran coach and brought in veteran players, supposedly to teach the young guys how to win and stop long slumps like this.

We will turn it around eventually, but this team is more bipolar than we thought during the win streak.

Meh, that says more to me about the folks doing the gloating.

I thought that was actually the right move. Kochetkov had pretty much covered everything when Tatar got the puck. He would've just jammed it back into the goalie.

Tried to get him moving to open him up and get a better angle. Didn't work.

I wouldn't mind if they bring Tatar back on a 1-2 year deal again, but I'm indifferent.

It really doesn't seem like a "bipolar" stretch.

The team is playing worse, but not awful. They're just not scoring. Dallas, NY, Philly, etc. were very close, competitive games where they just didn't cash on enough chances.

The place is not worth visiting at the moment. I do find it amusing when Islanders fans jump in and say shit though, as though that old, rudderless ship is going anywhere without historically good goaltending.
