The season has kinda started but we're still more than 72 hours away from the Devils playing regular season hockey. Damn straight we're going to read a lot into this!

Wednesday?!?!?!?
LOL I could care less about remembering the schedule when the first game isn’t at home and less than 24 hours after another Met el foldo. But yeah still a couple days off from the actual start

Mary Clarke with USA Today puts the Devils at 27th in terms of least to most watchable teams. Not that the team needs any more motivation to make this a winning season but here it is...

27. New Jersey Devils

In recent years, the Devils have always overpromised and underdelivered and I don’t see that changing in the 2022-23 season. How they managed to make Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, and Dougie Hamilton boring to watch is beyond me, but here we are.

Nico starting the season on IR? Have we ever gotten official word on the 10 day reevaluation?

I don't understand Nemec at all. The AHL is the best decision for him and he can come up and play with Luke later in the year.

If he starts in the NHL I'll be pretty disappointed. We already have Dougie and Severson for the PP and he could be getting much better time in Utica.

What morons. We were anything but boring last year.

Goaltenders (2)
29 Blackwood, Mackenzie
41 Vanecek, Vitek

They are placating Blackwood like @Bleedred was afraid of.

Vitek should be above him, imo.

Bah. Whatever.
its literally by alphabetical order
Yeah, I was gonna say. That it was probably either in numerical or alphabetical order, which Blackwood would come first in both scenarios.

I Call BS , they’re not boring to watch at all but I doubt very much she has actually watched the team. In the same breathe these people calling us boring to watch scream up and down how exciting the Ducks are. LOL yes Zegras and his once every 35 game trick play really catapults them to the top. This article is infuriating

You do realize players are listed in last name alphabetical order right?

And it wouldn’t surprise me to see Blackwood make the first start on Thursday but this isn’t the NFL where they list depth charts
I think they'll start Vanecek, but being that Blackwood didn't get completely bombed in his last half a game (as bad and shaky as he otherwise looked) and the fact that Vanecek allowed 2 late garbage time goals (one a 6 on 5 where we were pinned in for over a minute) maybe they will start Blackwood.

This organization has pumped out a lot of bullshit in the last 9 months or so, where it really feels like they're doing whatever they can to make Blackwood happen.

It seems to be based on a lot of faith and hope, more than anything. This could prove to be quite dangerous if it goes the way of the Marty/Cory season, but I don't think they'd let it go on quite as long if Vanecek were outplaying Blackwood as much as Cory outplayed Marty that season.

I love Nico but man he's injury prone. And spare me with the "they're freak accidents" bc it always seems to happen to him. Like I said I love the guy but he cannot stay healthy.

Don't know? The Goals Against will no doubt come down from the cartoonish 307.

But I am not sure about the Goals For moving much from last years 248. I wouldn't be completely surprised to that number go down or stay relatively the same.

We were a -59 last season. That's a lot to make up.
You're not wrong, you're probably correct, I'm just trying to be optimistic.

I’ve always loved that too. No player wants or plans to get hurt. Just another homer thing on the board.

Well I guess it’s good the first 10 games of the year are soft if they are going to be missing Hischier for some time. Still very annoying.

No, you're not, but @ing me like this with this complete strawman of my point isn't going to get you any post but this. Maybe when you come back with a different name.
So then whats your suggestion? I @'d you because I couldnt quote you goof

You said nobody is buying into losing again. All I said was Severson should be dealt, and that wed have two 20yos next year, somehow that extrapolates into losing again this season?

If you arent going to give your take on what they should do with Severson if theyre in a playoff race at the deadline then why waste my time

She's from Philly. Do not underestimate ever how much Flyers fans hate the Devils. We twice denied them a trip to cup finals.

Bahl not making the team is ridiculous
Yeah, I agree.
Not really. We’re overloaded with gigantic defensive defensemen who have little to no offensive upside. He played well and he’ll be up eventually, but his playing style is very redundant with what the Devils have rostered already.
But this is also a good point.

I think I may have rather had him on the roster than Brendan Smith, but Smith was still a useful bottom pairing NHL defenseman as of the end of the last season and he wasn't getting waived before year one of a two year deal. I still don't like him on a two year deal though.

And I don't think Nemec and Bahl BOTH were ever making the roster, it was one or the other. I think Smith is gonna be a healthy scratch in the opener, unless Nemec was kept up to be a healthy scratch, which I can't see that being the case.

Nico to IR? Oh great.

And I was one of the people that was optimistic, but this at least rules him out for the opener or else they wouldn't have bothered.
