I did not see Nemec making the team at all, thought for sure it would be Bahl. Very surprised.

Surprised Nemec made the team... definitely cool to see but the right side is absolutely locked down. They have 7 dmen so it's not even like he's an extra that will be sent down when Nico is activated.

Sounds like Johnsson is probably going to be made to disappear when Nico is ready. Hopefully for Thursday.

Bahl will be back up I feel, I'm not his biggest fan but his pretty season was pretty darn good and keeping Nemec for him just seems pretty weird considering the RHD is locked up. I think it's a paper move. Wonder if they do move on from Severson sooner rather than later but at that point why not just bring Nemec at that point while getting games in the AHL.

Surprised Nemec made the roster considering there was no spot for him with Hamilton, Severson and Marino. Where does he fit in?

Seems like it may be a cap-related paper move for now tied to putting Bernier on LTIR.

Nemec's cap hit is $950K compared to $795K for Bahl. You want to maximize your cap hit when LTIR'ing a player (as far as I understand), so it's favorable for them to have Nemec and his extra $155K on the official roster and then (because they both don't have to clear waivers) you can easily swap Nemec and Bahl prior to the first game. Based on usage this preseason, Bahl clearly made the team ahead of Nemec.

Nemec will be Severson's replacement. No need to rush him this early and have a kid like Bahl, playing LD, who excelled in pre-season take his spot. It really makes no sense.

Guess I'm wrong.

I thought Nemec over Bahl was a cap-related move, but if Bahl were already assigned to Utica that would not appear to be the case. Unless that's all part of the process - I have no idea. Still seems odd that Nemec would make it over Bahl.

That has to be one of the better forward groups we've had in a decade, I don't hate anyone vehemently making it in the bottom 6.

It's worrying for a young guy like Hischier to be this injury prone. Or as they say in football terms "made of glass".
Hischier is an integral part of this team and if he can't stay healthy, that lessens our chances to contend. Best ability is availability.

And it wouldn’t surprise me to see Blackwood make the first start on Thursday but this isn’t the NFL where they list depth charts

I suspect he will just be here for couple games and then re-evaluated. He is staying in either Utica or NJ regardless so there's no rush to decide what to do with him.

Glad to see it. They want to win some f***ing games this year. Nemec is better than Bahl. Question is if Bahl is better than Smith but games played is games played.

Not really. We’re overloaded with gigantic defensive defensemen who have little to no offensive upside. He played well and he’ll be up eventually, but his playing style is very redundant with what the Devils have rostered already.
